I need insulation for 24" on center studs, 2x4 framing. Looking for faced fiberglass. I have found foil faced and unfaced. I am going to either put osb or drywall up. Any suggestions? Located in south Alabama. Dont plan on running heat or a/c just trying to keep in tolerable.

Your studs are 24" on center, which is the measurement between the middle of one stud to the middle of the next stud. The distance of the cavity between 2 studs due to the thickness of the lumber is (roughly) 23"

and the insulation's paper facing will have "folds" to unfold that will staple dead center on your 24" O.C. studs.

So I'm good to go with the 23" stuff then? I assumed that the overall width of the two would be different. I have never bought insulation so i was a little confused. Guess I was thinking there was a 23" and 24" on center. Dont' ask. Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

Yep. The 23" wide stuff is what you want.

Good deal. Lowes has some on sale till November. Another question. Do I need to hold off on putting it up till I'm ready to wall it up? Didnt know if it would start to sag without being sandwiched up.

22 1/2" between the studs,16" centered studs have 14 1/2" between them.;)

It appears you would benefit more from visual assistance on your project. Go to YouTube and type in your browser...." Installing fiberglas insulation". ..and pick a video of installing your insulation... choose a video showing the installation of paper faced insulation or clean batts and using plastic vapor barrier . Your choice. Owens Corning videos are good.

Depends on how good the framing carpenter is.... :lol_hitti I have insulated exterior walls to where I had to cut 15 in. wide batts and turn them sideways on some stud spaces... to get them to fit tightly.

Between doing more service panel change outs and installs and blocking for more lights/ceiling fans than Id ever want to try and count those numbers are permanently engraved into my brain along with 4/7 5/8 6/9 for wiring 480 volt motors and a few other numbers that will never leave!

My pole barn garage is framed 24" OC and I went with R15 kraft faced (23", I think) for the walls and R30 kraft faced for the ceiling. I used 5/8" drywall. It's only going to be heated when I'm in there. I purchased the R15 from a large commercial supply house and they had to order it. I purchased the R30 from the same place. Their insulation prices were around half of what HD wanted for R15....even for 16" batts...same for the R30. The guy I worked was really cool and he gave me contractor pricing.

I put up 6mil plastic under my faced insulation. I stapled through 1" cardboard squares so the staples wouldn't pull through the plastic.
