my thought was to make our garage /car parking area 24 wide x28. thru the magic of CL I have found 26 foot rafters for $1200 to go 30 feet deep.Am i correct in thinking that 26 wide for a 2 car garage is even better and then other stuff will store there and leaves more in my shop area for me ! shop area is at 24 x 24 ,thoughts welcome

never can too big.....

I went with 30ft deep 28ft wide. have a 18ft long dodge Monaco car in it and wanted plenty of room to work in front of the cars plus room for a bench along the back wall. plus room for a tool box etc behind me if im facing my workbench on the far wall.

never have enough space......my motto is if you think a 26ft will work, then go with a 28 or 30 like buying screws or nails, if you think you will need a pound get some extra.

You will not be sorry that you went bigger. One point to factor in though is the cost to finish the extra square footage.......but well worth it in the end!

You will have room to swing thr car doors open if you go wider with seprate garage doors.

Name one person you know who ever said, "I wish I had built my garage smaller."

Make sure the total length is not the 26' that would leave you with no overhang on each side. Bigger is better for sure on garage size.

Had a friend build his shop 15 years ago and started with "I will never use that much space" and went up at least 20% on every dimension. His favorite is his 16 foot wide garage door and he says he stopped regretting the $4000 extra cost and 8 month longer build about 6 months after he built it.

ditto, ditto, ditto

When I built the house, I blew mine out 6', and now, 14 years later, I wonder what was I thinking? I would have taken it out 15' more, and another 10' on the back, but that was then, and I have to live with what I thought was going to be more than enough. I wasn't familiar with the concept that there is no such thing as "enough", let alone "more than enough".

2 ft works out to about 10% usable space. 2 ft wouldn't mean much on a 100 ft building but that is already too small to start with. This is a place in life to stretch and be all you can be, you can make up a little on other stuff later but like cubic inches,,, no substitute for square ft.

I am in bsiness and have a shop but my ultimate hobby shop would be 40X 60 or so. Big enough to have a little elbow room but easy to heat and not too much walking.
