we finished the brick over the weekend, and the window arch and key. Now I have to get the doors, but I am having a hard time finding a 9 wide by 8 tall door that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I saw some Wayne Dalton from Menard's, but I am not sure if they'll deliver to another state. Anyone have any source for inexpensive doors in VA?20250529_184532[1].jpg

Lowes sells one for about $900

This was part of the reason I went with roll ups instead of regular doors is the cost for anything over 9x7 sizes (that and I wanted room for a lift.

The brick looks good. Out of curiosity what are you doing about the large lip on your right side of the slab where you drive your car into the garage? I ran into the same issue because of my slope and just had the guy pour a huge ramp/pad out front.

You're absolutely right! the cost beyond 7 feet tall is crazy! shame on me for not having done research before framing the thing. 🤦‍♂️
Nah you'll enjoy the large doors. So much easier to enter and exit. I put in a 10x8 and with tow mirrors on my truck its wonderful to have the wide doors and tall so I don't need to fold them in and won't need to worry about height on a lifted vehicle.

we are doing something similar, we are taking down the driveway 6 feet in front of the garage, and pouring a straight skirt that will angle and match up to the remaining driveway.

Sounds like a good plan. At first I was kinda annoyed I was going to spend even more on concrete but now that I have it I love having a large slab out front for washing cars and stuff. Your will probably look even nicer since your matching it up with the rest of your driveway.

I wish I had the extra land to build a big shop but sadly we opted for a big view and homes are packed in tightly. That did I love watching a good build and especially a brick exterior so keep up the great work. Other than parking cars in it I’m also curious on how you use it so I’ll be watching, learning and maybe adding my 2 cents if it might help.

Good job so far!!

Your little race car almost looks like it will fit in the back of your Honda element (hee hee).

So what is it and if you’d like to share it’s specs and top speed I’m sure we’d all love to hear.

I’m guessing you are loving the new big space inside your new garage to keep your stuff out of the weather and to work on?

The car is a 1985 Dodge Omni GLH it has a swapped 2.5L turbo engine out of a caravan LOL makes right around 170 HP and weighs in at 1900 Lbs. (fully stripped). we haven't run it yet since we just recently bought it. A tree fell on top of it, so we got a good deal on it and a parts car. the idea is to get it ready for Champ Car Endurance racing. It is a little over 11 feet long as it sits now, so I have enough space to work around it, it will be a little easier once I get the lift in, but that may be a while.

Not sure what you opted for with garage doors, but highly recommend engaging a door company - get a good quality insulated door, high lift option if you intend to ever install a lift, and use SIDE mounted openers. Just completed mine six months ago and absolutely worth it. Even if you don't install a lift, high lift garage tracks make your space look so much bigger and side mount openers elminated all those center tracks, belts, etc.

PS Beautiful garage.

I went with regular 9x8 doors, there will be a lift in the back, the garage is 2 cars deep, so the door won't be on the way. the difference in price between getting the doors myself and getting a door company was eye watering LOL.

Yep, there's nothing cheap about expanding. :) First world problems :) We're changing the main house garage tracks to high lift and side mount as well. It's not for a lift, but it's oddly satisfying how much the space feels bigger. High-rise conversion is $200 in parts, and a good side mount was $440.

BTW, not sure how the laughing emoji stuck on your post of the concreate...I was certainly not laughing at your garage, it's perfect. I fixed the emoji when I got home.

I received the lift on Friday, and could not wait, so I started the installation by myself, I was up till 1:30 AM, and I nearly killed myself a couple of times, I got most of it done, and a couple of friends came over on Saturday to help me with the top bar. All is well now, and I am super happy with it.Screenshot_20250630_082812_Gallery[1].jpgScreenshot_20250630_082848_Gallery[1].jpg

Lucky dog! I was planning on putting in a lift relatively soon but tarrifs have killed that idea. I checked and the price had gone from above $2k~ to almost $5k. The worse part is the company had a sale during black Friday last year where is was like something crazy like buy one get one or buy one get one half off and I almost bought it and stored it outside but at that time the building installation timeline was in limbo due to the installers being backed up so I figured eh I'll wait. I obviously didn't learn anything from the price increases of COVID

Yeah, Mine is a Katool 11,000 Lbs., and they have listed on their website that the prices will increase after the second week of July due to tariffs. It came in super-fast, I placed the order on Tuesday, and it showed up that Friday. I am still working on trusting it LOL. it's the first time I have used a lift at all, and it scares me a good bit. I left the car up on it all weekend, and this morning it's still there so I'm like "that's good, maybe another week and I'll get under it" :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

How do you like your Honda element. I have yet to meet an unhappy Honda element owner but I’ve loved our CRV’s and my daily driver is a 2003 Honda pilot so I never searched too hard for one.

Great to see your lift installed and even more impressive is you didn’t get a Darwin Award and remained with the living.

Hmm I see that brand isn't too expensive but looks decent quality. Let me know how you like it. I might have to break out the credit card and just pull the trigger before lifts get out of my price range

The Honda element is the greatest thig ever! ours has 300K miles, and it's still in excellent shape, I take really good care of it. I need a new windshield for it now, but other than a starter motor at 280K, it never gave me any problems (knock on wood)
