24 years ago today Re-Vamped the garage, today (not finished yet, started just right after ordering the Saylor-Beall VT-PL-735-80 FP) decided to take pictures before i get too far of what happened so many years ago, well here it is...
This house was built in 1952, mind you, the rear bricks of the fireplace are in the garage which is not all that big in the first place 12'x22', back then there were Plymouth's Cadillac's, Pontiacs and Imperials as big and as long as my 3500 Big Horn. well these house's supposedly were built for the military because that's about all you could park in here would be a Jeep.
So back then I did what i could do what I had on hand and funds that allowed me to get by with, and all was good.........................Now the Present Day (and I am Thankful).
These following first pictures are what it still looks like from yester-year and as i was getting geared up on the re-mod...
We moved in 1987.

Today is Funday...
It's time to begin capping the beams (they use to be dark brown paint when we first moved in and then i had painted them First Light) now they'll have more character,
This particular 4x4 beam had splits and wanes, so i used Gorilla adhesive and HeadLOK lags to attach and fasten 2x4's and a 2x8 [email protected]", with silver Simpson hangers, now it's a 5"x6.5" my version of a Glulam, just stick around.
The other beams had been beefed up, kinged and crippled years ago, i just never got to this darn one

Ok let the Caps begin! Just the smaller what use to be 4x4 beams all get this flooring to encase them,

Luxury Vinyl Flooring Tiles by Lucida USA

The color is Pate = Grey

People are using this for garage flooring, I'm epoxying mine, besides the flooring will last longer off the ground😮.......
I
  • WATERPROOF & EASY CLEAN, tiles are 100% waterproof with an IXPE integrated sound reduction underlayment that does not absorb water. it's basically like laminate flooring.
  • There's 12 solid colors (It's hard to find solid colors in Laminate flooring).

I have done vinyl wrap a few times, for my 06' Dodge side view mirrors, RC projects, as shelf liners and boxes,
Now it's for some of the walls (maybe just maybe the Soffit Chase covers, that'll be later if that ever happens, time will tell, besides they are already painted Satin Dolphin Blue).
I just now ordered these rolls to install just in two areas for now, i have Red C.F. and Matte Black already here, but came across these colors and textures...

Very Pretty, I don't think you will be doing many welding jobs in that garage.
As Mrs. Clancy use to say "Just make it look nice."
You have to remember i remodel houses and most are basic, so my home is a testing ground for the unusual.
I dig doing different things whether its pass or fail, it keeps me thinking outside the box.
Perhaps I'll post my Growl Grotto here someday, it's kinda like a garage for my pool supplies.
well here's a small sample of it anyways....
started this about 15years ago
it's about 89% done
The link will not highlight so this just a few Pics.

Compressed, we purchased our first home more than 55 years ago (June 1966) and it came with a 1-car garage that was just big enough to park a '62 Rambler (and later a brand new '68 GTO) inside.
First Home 1966.jpg
Like yours it had most of a brick fireplace filling much of it. Had to build a two-piece cantilever workbench on the back wall with tiny sink in the middle. It was in upstate New York so I plumbed the sink with hot and cold well-insulated hose faucets below the sink so I could melt the snow/salt/slush from the cars' undercarriages. Lived there for nine long years before moving to Florida and a 2-car garage.
First Home 1975.jpg
New owners turned the garage into living space and popped up a second story. The house was built in 1952 and here it is in 2012 when it turned 60.

That's what the houses in my neighborhood has done, i need some resemblance of a garage, it actually was a type of room when we purchased it and before closing to keep it a room the previous owners would of had to provide heat and install a fire rated door between the kitchen and garage. It's small but i've made it work all these years.
My backyard shed helps, hopefully the new metal shed should be back in stock after the first of the New Year.
anyways your thread here is a lot fun, i enjoy all the reading and still trying to figure out how i accumulated so many neat things through out the years and crammed it all in such a small space. Been unloading (giving/donating and tossing things away, i do not have time to sell, nor want myself or anyone else to pay shipping costs more than what's sell).
There's another saying i like when at work and things go awry (from Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer) Hermey the Elf but i say it this way,
" I should've of been a dentist"

Upper left is well, left over black material i used for a subwoofer deck.
The Blue CF vinyl wrap area is not 100% complete, i'm going to run 12 volt light strips inside an aluminum shower door header piece and light it up and cap off bottom edges with aluminum angle step treads and still waiting for my two blue intermediate WestWard three drawer cabinets that'll go below side by side...
These are Gladiator's floor cabinets

My version of an LED light bar.
Originally this was just used as a ledger so i could install the Gladiator floor cabinets on the wall by myself, and when finished i realized i'll make this a light fixture...................................................................................................................................................................................................................
I use these rolls of led chips for lots of lighting projects, Train and slot car sets, RC builds ect... i have done some neat lights with with these small light emitting diodes.
the smallest is for porch and stop lights for Z and N scale train layouts, Light Genie by MRC makes them real small.

Ok ordered some more VViViD Grey Indestructible, this stuff works and works well, thinking covering the WM & dryer tops with it, just for fun.
When i cut out the OSB chase panels many years ago i just roughly cut them(and had not been painted) and didn't think to dial them in closely, until now,
me likes a lot better now🙂.................
BEFORE:
AFTER:
there are four switched receptacles for lighting across these

When i built in the entertainment(A/V) system thru wall into garage over washing machine and dryer 194 years ago there was an overhead area, insulated, recessed light and a enough room to put some thin boxes. It never had a door until now

That is a good looking cabinet. And it looks like it was custom built for that spot!

Any trouble opening the lid? Or is there enough clearance between the cabinet and shelf?

I have to Klammer it open,😅 just kiddn', yes it hits but the shocks help it open up smoothly and i can reach what i keep in there and it's not hard to wheel away from that spot to open all the way.
when i saw it a few weeks ago at Home Pimple they had two left (store only holiday stock), i really liked the blue, the auto close drawers are better than my Craftsman, they close more effortless and do not move side to side as easy.
for 436 tax incl. i just had to, the Ol' red & black Husky is in the shed now it was my second roll cabinet, so now i have a total of eight wheeled tool cabinets. One more large cabinet for the shed when it ever gets rebuilt, maybe spring / summertime project.

Some cooling for the receiver, i dig creating, and building things no matter how easy or difficult it can go, it doesn't have to be perfect or look like it was manufactured, it just has to look nifty and clean...................
A Vornado fan, a red ring i've had being i collect different size circle objects for jigs cutting out holes, bet i have had this ring for fifteen years, some foam weather strip, and install...

Moving onto the lower cabinet, i wanted to build and install a door for the CD player.
1/4" Plexi-Glass, stereo cabinet hinges, black aluminum laptop key frame, some RC red & black anodized aluminum pieces,M3 Titanuim screw, locknut, a lil' weather stripping, double sided trim/molding tape, neodymium magnets and my imagination.
Sides are FRP painted with black hammer paint and other side skinned with VViViD burl vinyl wrap (love this product).......................

Now for a Valance, an aluminum piece from a roller backdrop screen system, ripped to fit...
TEKTON sells individual tool drawers with sliders, Black, Red or White, I choose white since the appliances are white..
This was supposed to be an Intermediate tool box, ZORRO cancelled my order even though at the time it was in stock and all of a sudden it was not, BOO! i wanted blue.. it would had been taller but i ended up with 5 1/4" height of these drawer space instead of 2" and these drawers are deeper(thus the Valance to hide the gap so I am able to remove the drawers if needed) so it all worked out.
Now back to the air hose reel connection and dial in the pressure switch...

@Compressed, we're on opposite sides of the country but doing similar things. I used to have the garage audio stacked on an old icemaker but it was a nightmare to access the water heater. Built a cabinet on wheels so the recent water heater replacement was a nothing muffin.

Media Center.jpg Audio Cabinet 57.jpg
After the second plastic laundry tub sprung a leak I installed a stainless steel one. Not as deep as yours but $49 for an Amazon return was in my happy money space.

Say hey Bob! , this is strictly for my AAAADDDD, when i started @24 yrs ago 0r so, life kicked in and never quite gave it the finished touch and yes the money back then always went someplace else, if it was completed back then, then all i would have to do is refinish the floor.
I like clean, you'd never guess the way i look after work, and organized is part of knowing where its at and spending quality time with all the wonderful tools and all the **** i have achieved did i mention tidiness (when possible) I like to build, i like it here at GJ for there is some great ideas and excellent craftsmen here it's hard to believe what we can do with forefingers & thumbs.
It is a privilege to have you post, Thank you, you have been great and kind, i tend to drift a lot between hobbies, just acquired a Kawi KLX140 to ride around at my cousins property when we work on his projects in the lower mountains of the Sierras. i try to spend time when possible on Tamiya club, even found some cool stickers left over from some RC projects to put on this trail bike.

believe or not when i'm working in this garage i'm too busy concentrating on what i'm doing i forget to turn on the tunes.
I should have more pics soon with the 1962 med cab i refinished... again (at least that's what the stamp mark on the back of the mirror says),
it's a year older then me😅
