I moved to our current house in '99, and have been using/developing the 36' x 24' pole barn for my workshop Whereas it's gone through many configurations and is currently stuffed to the gills, until today, I'd not added anything on the inside to personalize or "bling" it up.

About 10 years ago, I had an idea for a sign displaying my mantra, and cut a set of 3" letters on the work waterjet, from 1/8" aluminum. Well, the plan for today went well enough that I had an hour or so to kill. I dug out a suitable length of recycled board and put together the first "objet d'art" for the barn...

I could use that saying for my wife!
She looks at something and sees a few hours. I can look at something and see a few weeks! She used to get mad at me because I would not want to do some "little project" she wanted done. After a few years of seeing things like a tile repair in the bathroom turning into a gut remodel she is starting to understand.
She asked about putting a dish washer in our kitchen and got the "eye roll" from me. That got a little hostility back from her. There is no place in our kitchen to put one, it would involve new cabinets, so may as well do flooring, oh, and the outside walls don't have much insulation, so may as well pull the plaster down and reinsulate, the rewire, plumbing, all new appliances. Yeah, give me a year and I can get it done!

...and remember every simple 20 min project is one broken bolt away from a three day circus.
I remember how a broken bolt turned my friend's water pump replacement into, literally, a three day circus. When his Mom said, "When are you going to finish working on Cindy's car? You said that was just a couple of hours work!", I could hear and smell the brain matter melting in his head and running out his ears, lol!

The statement is less about the simplicity of various projects, and more about my ability to overthink and make things a lot more complicated than needed.
You didn’t happen to be caught on film building fence lately have you?

What relief. I saw the post title and was so saddened. I’m glad I was on the wrong track.
