Hi folks,
I hope everyone is doing well.... it's been quite a while since I've been on the site! Well, I have a 1991 240 volvo station wagon. It's served me well! I love that car!!!! It's approaching 200 thousand and going strong! It's hauled everything I own.... including a Uhall trailer and my dog.... we drove straight through 23 hours from Houston back ot my home, now, in va.
Anyhow, enough about my love affair with that car! The tailgate latch on my car is quite tempermental these days. Sometimes I can open it, and sometimes I can't. If I can't open it, I can go to the drivers side lock... lock, unlock, lock, unlock again, and usually the back can be opened then. I've tried the obvious, ie... wd40 and white lithium.
Does anyone have any ideas about what I should do?
I suppose the car's been through a lot. I took all the seats out of it about ten years ago. I have the drivers seat, and that's it. I can haul ten foot boards in it with all of the doors closed! Who needs a truck?! It's pretty easy to live out of, too. Lots of room to stretch out and sleep!
Again, hope everyone's doing well. I know there's plenty of volvo folks out there, would love your help.
cheers,
bird.

Lol. Yes, 240 wagons are about the best vehicles ever, but yes, the tailgate locks do that. I've had three of them and my dad has one. They all do it to varying degrees.

I haven't ever attempted a fix, but if nobody on here has an idea, you might try turbobricks or brickboard. You WILL find an answer on one of those.

Glad to see another crazy 240 person on gj!

Hi dear,
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I have a love affair with my car!!!!! Gotta love something/ someone!!!!!!
It seems that this is a fairly common problem with the 240s. But, I haven't found an answer to the problem yet. I will check out your suggestions. I'm not really that much of a car "whiz." My dad and my brother are. But, I can fix a few things ..... thanks for the info. I hope you are doing well.
cheers,
bird.

I'd post on turbobricks.com, I'm sure someone there has had the same issue. I'd pull off the interior panel on the tailgate and check the wiring connections. It sounds like its not getting the message to unlock from your centeral locking. Lubing all the moving parts never hurts either.
