I don't have much time on my hands these days so I called for a quote on a 240v outlet. I just need it wired from panel of basement to 2nd floor through the walls.

Electrician wants $1,987.00

Does this price sound right? Sounds like a rip off.

Depends on what you want to run off it, how tough the walls are, if you have the empty spots in the panel, pulling the permit to do the work, etc... Electricians are usually about 60-100 an hour, plus materials. Probably a 2 man job pulling wires 3 stories, so I could see it being that much. Never hurts to get 3 bids...

Just be glad you're not replacing a Sylvania/Zinsco box... we have 3 of them in our house, already had 2 breakers do what they do best (overheat, melt down, and fall apart).

I don't know if it's a rip off. Getting a few more quotes would illuminate that better than we could. I do know that you'll likely understand why the price was set at what it was once you're a 1/4 into the job.

Missing is the ampacity. A 50A circuit is going to be vastly different from a 20A circuit...

Pulling wires into interior finish work *****. Its easy to get dirty fingerprints all over, usually drywall has to be sacrificed and refinished, repainted, multiple trips or other subs, plus the "who knows whats behind the walls" factor once work is started. Is your panel stuffed or has open slots...there are many factors.

I dont think it sounds too overpriced, maybe a little but not too much. It's not *just* going from the garage to the 2nd floor, it involves installing it on the panel, running it through multiple joists in drywall, possibly concrete. Then up to the second story of your house through the first story. all the time making sure to not destroy existing wiring and cause a fire hazard in your house.

This!

And this!

Snaking from a basement to a second floor can be a real PIA. Without knowing the amperage and seeing the site conditions it is completely impossible to say if that price is legit. It very well could be right on.

Did he simply call up and ask someone on the phone?

Can you make time for 1900$? I actually started this early in my career, it was soon and I figured out I couldn't call someone for every outlet or circuit. It is an opportunity. I am done before "finding" someone to do it.

Just walls and sheet rock. Well, I made time and wired this myself already. Not that hard. Saved $1900.

Had he asked for $500-$700, I would have said yes.

Wait a minute. So u alreqdy got it done 24hrs later?

How long did the fishing take?

Yeah good for you op! In all fairness if you called he likely quoted you a worsted case scenario.but on the other hand should have least wanted to come look at the job.but it seems like you were in a rush! Now at least let us know the details.what you used etc.

Thanks.

When the wife wants it done, she mean business. I wanted to just go fishing. LOL

I watched a lot of helpful videos. Will post pictures when I get a chance.
