call around to a few machine shops to see if you can loan one? :dunno:

Large metric taps are pretty uncommon. Good luck with your results.

Should be able to get a USA made one off eBay. Large taps come up all the time.

I've seen huge tattoos go for really short money on eBay pretty regularly. That'd be my first choice. Retail is gonna be pricey, and the Chinese ones will be ****.

You might do OK with a Chinese one, as the hole is in aluminum.

Q: are you tapping or just cleaning threads? I once got desperate when I had some threads that needed cleaning up. I took a grade 8 bolt, cut reliefs in the side (creating sharp edges) reduced the end a bit to get it started, and had made a home-made tap! Worked well for what I needed (it was something soft.)

If you have a smaller tap with the thread pitch that you need, it can be used to rake the threads in the larger hole to correct them. Tedious, but it works to remove irregularities.
