I built a 24x24 with a room up top. I do have 8' over hangs though on either side.

Can I ask what size trusses they are 9/12 maybe, does the overhang give you more room upstairs ?

My garage is 25 x 40, but it has 10/12 pitch storage rafters so the side-to-side should be the same (mine is 12' wide). I don't have an online photo with it finished, but here is what it looked like when under construction.

They are 10/12 pitch. The over hangs did give me a couple extra feet of width upstairs but was not the main reason for them. I wanted a place to watch the rain.

Thanks Juiced10 and Stuart, Hey Stuart so how much width at standing height do you think you have, all said do you think its worth it on a 24x24, I'm wondering if I'm gonna find the space useless or the stairs will screw up my layout downstairs. I don't plan on 2 cars, more of a workshop/ Tractor storage. The idea of extra storage as I am limited by the town on building size is very appealing

I never measured, but at head height I suppose it's 8 feet or so. I have folding stairs that come down in between cars, so it's not an issue for using up space downstairs.

I think the attic is well worth it. I can't store engine blocks or anything huge like that up there, but it is a lot of useable storage space.

Stuart Any chance you can show a pic of the stairs, I was thinking of permanent stairs as compared to fold up.

I don't have any pictures of the stairs, but they're just the regular old commercially available fold up attic stairs like you'd buy at any big box store. For the record I don't recommend them as they are very light duty, and I'm probably taking my life in my hands whenever I climb them with something heavy. :)

There are some threads here about heavy duty ladders or lift up stairs that others have built themselves, I'd dig around using the search function to see what you can find.
