Hey! I'm currently building a 24x28 garage and was wondering what should I put to control humidity.

I live up north in quebec where winter goes as low a -40 and summer as high as 85ish.

We're heating the garage with a in-floor radiant but I really dont know what to use as far as dehumidifier.

I was thinking maybe the aprilaire 1830 ( sorry cant post links )

or maybe a heat recovery ventilator?

I want the installation to be as hidden as possible, so I would run ducts inside the walls and probably install the unit in the attic and build an isolated box around it.

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

What area are you in?

For the price of that unit you might as well get an entry-level mini-split (unless humidity is also a problem during winter.) You would be able to control humidity as well as cool the place.

What will you use the garage for? Humidity is usually not an issue in a garage around here.

Garage will be used for detailing and a wash bay with occasional car maintenance.

We will park both our cars in the winter and would like for my car to not rust because of the humidity that will be trapped in

It almost impossible to control the humidity in a garage, with two cars coming and going in the winter. The snow and ice melt alone plus the water on the floor would put an extreme demand the dehumidifier. Most dehumidifiers do not function at low temperatures.
Then add a high air exchange rate every time the doors open means high expense to run a dehumidifier with little actual humidity change.

The heated garage discussion for daily use vehicles has been hashed and rehashed here many times. Opinions vary widely with few actual facts on accelerated rusting. Most newer modern cars show little or no rust issues in the first 6-10 years of use depending on use and care.

In a shop or car storage ( no use) humidity in the winter in heated garage is rarely a problem as the heat tends to dry the air. Forced air heat dries the air more than in floor heat. In the same shop or storage situation, in summer many of us run a dehumidifier to keep the humidity at or ideal 50%.

In winter extreme cold air is very dry. The snow melt and wet cars bring in gallons of water per day.

If you want to dehumidify during winter then some sort of unit like the one you posted should do the trick.
