Welcome to the site! There is so much information on this board that comes in very handy when building  . If you can't find the information that you are looking for, there is always someone that has an answer (most by experience) if you will post up.

As far as engineered calculations, I don't have any of those since a builder that constructed the 'shell' of my shop (and ordered all the materials). I do believe that the floor joist portion of the truss is 2x8 if that helps any. I'll try to remember to verify that tonight since I can still see the joist in the 'attic' portions of the second story.

Cheers! Thanks for the reply and thoughts so quickly. I just got off the phone with the truss manufacturer (whom constructs with specs. for our area based on local codes), and apparently 35psf is a code req. for second story structures, regardless of the span type, for use with living areas such as bedrooms etc. It is not meant to support things like heavy appliances etc., so I think I am in the clear as far as using the space for reasonably heavy storage (some lumber etc.) and maintaining a bonus room with couches, tv and so on.

Cheers

The heaviest itemupstairs is probably the treadmill (though it's not very heavy). The bowflex is fairly heavy but also has a large base so it spreads the load over the floor. Good luck with your project! Keep us posted with polenty of pictures.

After 18 years in this shop, it's time for an addition since we need more storage space and I finally got my classic project car. It will be a 24x32 addition to the existing 24x32 shop which will make it 48' (deep) x 32' (wide). I will be going with 12' ceiling (which I regretted not doing in the first 'phase' of this shop) so I can have a 4-post lift.

Need some insight on a few things:
- What brand 4-post lift would you recommend (leaning towards Advantage but they are pricey and I'm sure there are other quality lifts for less so I could get some upgrades / additions)? I'm thinking at least a 9000lb but may have to go higher to get an extra long / extra wide option for ease of drive thru and making sure I'm covered for a 2500 Silverado diesel truck.
- Favorite lighting?
