So, I have done a lot of research and spent countless hours on GJ looking at my options and what would work best for my needs, budget and probably most importantly what my local zoning officer will allow. Lol. Today My 24x32x12 pole barn is underway and I couldn’t be more excited. I am working from home today, so I can see the process unfold. It is cold and wet in NJ today and I already applaude these guys for getting my garage started and 3 days earlier than my original build date at that. I have a gopro set up on time lapse to record what I can of the build with a 128GB memory card. Got my footing inspection at 8:10am, material was unloaded by 9:30am and building started. Posts were stood and leveled within the 1st hour. I will check back later today with some progess pics.

Very nice! What part of Jersey? Who are you having build it?
I'm in Central Jersey, if we ever get a few days without rain I'll be grading and compacting my site for Pioneer to start April 7th.

@Turbostang370, I am south of you in Gloucester County. I reached out to most of the big names in lancaster and got bids from those who actually responded. I went with Shirk, becuase they were the quickest to reply, made many changes to the plans, provided itemized eatimates and unstamped plans without ever asking for a dime (I did have to end up buying sealed plans for the zoning and permit). Not to mention, they had the best price of any quote I received. Good luck with your build, how big are you going? I’m getting ready to upload a few more pics from today.

I worked from home most of the day to watch my pole barn go up and boy did it ever. They were short one guy, but you wouldn’t know it from what was done today. After the posts were level and secured the building took shape quickly. I offered coffee, water, food and these guys said they were fine. Took a short break to eat their packed lunch in the work truck and were back at it. I had to run out for a few hours around 3:30 and they said they would probably work until 4:30ish and be back on Monday. At that point, they had only the 1st truss up and when I got home at 6:45, I found all the trusses standing in place and the sheathing stacked on the roof ready to go for their return.

Awesome progress. These building sure do go up fast when you have an experienced crew. I’m going with a 40’x60’ main building with a 60’x10’ lean-to on one side and a 15’x10’ lean-to on the other side.

Wow, great size! Anything fun getting parked inside? Are you a part of any local mustang or car clubs? My wife drives a 2014 Mustang convertible.

Best of luck on your build and post pics if you get a chance, I would love to see it!

I’m not a “car club” kinda guy. I have a few very close friends who are also into Mustangs and Ford diesel trucks.
I have a bit of a strange collection and hobby mechanic issue. Primarily foxbody mustang and 6.0 Ford diesels. Wife has an ‘03 Anniversary Edition Cobra.
I plan on starting a thread for my building once they start. I’ll also post all the “prep” and site work photos then.

My wife has a extensive “Mustang” collection. Here is one of the light up foxbody pieces I picked up for her a few years back while at Mecum in Harrisburg, PA. The one above it was handmade by our daughter as a gift to my wife this past Christmas. Good luck with your build, I’m looking forward to seeing some progress pics as it goes up.

The crew was back at 7am for the 2nd day of the build and had tools in hand and making cuts by 7:09am. They have an extra guy today for a total of 3 workers. Sheathing flew up this morning and shingles got delivered right before lunch. Tar paper is down, drip edge is on and shingles are starting to go on and it’s only 1:30pm.

Day 3 of the build and it’s looking like a garage. Today the rest of the roof got nailed on and the ridge vent was installed. Soffit, capping, entry door, garage doors, trim and tyvek is up. Tomorrow should leave the siding and some trim. It’s really starting to come together. My Dad even stopped by to take some measurements for insulation. He said it’s his garage warming gift to me. Thanks, Dad.

Thanks. Yes, it’s a very exciting build and I have enjoyed watching the building go up. My wife is a Huge Mustang collector from hotwheels and tin signs to shirts and socks, she has it all. Her daily driver is a 2014 Convertible and I have a 2002 Torch Red Corvette that I am the 2nd owner with only 20k miles on it. I’ll be sure to post some pics of her in the garage once the floor and driveway are installed.

I have been working from home to watch the build, but today on the 4th and final day of the build, I had some work that could not be done from home. I do have a few time lapse videos that I am trying to figure out how to upload on GJ, so I can share with everyone. I’ll keep you posted, but in the meantime here are some pics of the finished building before grade, floor and driveway. Hope to have that all done in the next 2 weeks. Back to the township for an electrical permit, so I can bury some conduit before the floor goes in.

I hear you on zoning. We have to be 10 foot from side boundary and 15 from rear boundary. This is about the max size i can go while still having a usable yard. Looking forward to seeing it finish out.

Ok... So, I have been slacking with updates on my pole barn. It’s been a few weeks and here is an update. Concrete was prepped just about 3 weekends ago by a local guy who’s company is called flat top. His prices were competitive and his work was great. I ended up with 4” of 4000 psi with steel wire instead of fiber mesh. I also went with a 4’ apron across the entire front of the building. I also stubbed up SCH 40 Rigid PVC for electric and data install.

After the floor cured and I would walk on it, I installed some heavy duty shelving and a new tool box, so I could unload the old shed and move into the new garage. Few days later, the old shed was picked up and gone, so I could get the driveway installed and work on repairing the lawn.

Ok. This post should get me caught up on my build. I had a local company called driveways express give me a quote a few weeks ago and when I was finally ready, they were booked out 3 weeks. The owner was able to rearrange a few things to fit me in and was out in less than 48 hours to install the 1200sqft blacktop driveway to join my existing driveway with the new garage. I can drive on it in a few days and start parking inside. Needless to say, I am super excited.

Next project is going to be to trench the conduit for the power and get my lawn back in order. Undecided if I will do it the old fashion way with seed and tlc or go for the instant gratification of SOD. I’ll keep you posted.

Just wanted to say your contractors are the best!!! On time or before time, you can't beat them, glad you put their name out here so others could use them in the future. I know free advertising is better than paid sometimes. Great looking shop.

Have been enjoying the new garage and forgot to post updates. I rented a kubota to level and grade the yard before laying SOD. Got prices of $2/sqft and at 2500sqft it was not an option. I was able to get the SOD delivered for under $700 and had a few friends help with the install. And finally got to park inside and the layout gives me plenty of room to open the doors on my toys.

Thanks. I did a lot of research before I went with them and glad I did. I wanted to post my experience to help others on this forum select a good builder.

Just wanted to say your contractors are the best!!! On time or before time, you can't beat them, glad you put their name out here so others could use them in the future. I know free advertising is better than paid sometimes. Great looking shop.

Thanks. I was very pleased with them and wanted to share that on this forum. Word of mouth is the best advertisement.

I'm looking at building one this size. Subscribed.

I would say go as big as your local code will allow and of course what you can afford. It was cheap enough to go up, so I can add lifts for extra storage if needed to. I’m very happy with the 10x10 doors and 12’ high ceilings.

Here are a few pics with the doors open and cars parked inside to give an idea of the size of this building. I am still very happy with the build and hope to add electric before the summer is over. Oh.. we are just car sitting the mustang for my brother. He has recently outgrown his garage and I am talking him into having one built similar to mine. May need those lifts sooner than I thought. Took a ride down to Greg Smith Equipment to look at 4 post lifts and just have not made a decision on one yet. I will try an remember to post updates sooner vs later.
