So I wanted to start a thread on here to keep track of my garage and hopefully gain some ideas from the people on here.

As an intro I bought a house this past January with a 24x36 detached garage. The upper level was completely unfinished and is now finished into a home office. The lower garage level is for the most part unfinished and I am hoping to start working on that this coming fall/winter. I feel like I am using the space inefficiently and want to change that.

First I will attach some pics of the garage itself and the progress of the upper level office which is complete (for the most part) at this point. Would love to hear some suggestions for what to do with the lower level!

Outside pic of the garage:

Downstairs before I moved anything in:

Beginning of the upper level project: (I didn't take any good pics before we started)

A few progress pics:

Finished Product:

Now on to the lower level. This is how it currently sits. I know, it's a mess.

On this side, I am thinking about ripping out the old kitchen cabinets and countertop here and building some sort of wall to close in the stairs and add some storage spaces. Mostly for stuff that doesn't get used often, or I am just storing. Would love some ideas for this area:

On the opposite side, I am planning on getting rid of this crappy old cabinet that was here when we bought the place and building shelving across the ceiling from wall to wall. I also want this area to be the work area and build a long toolbox workbench/storage cabinets over here:

First on the lists are finish putting plywood up on the walls where it was not done by the previous owner and then move to upgrading the lighting. I want it to be BRIGHT. Would love to hear any suggestions and ideas you guys have!

The upstairs looks nice, great job there. Did you put insulation in the ceiling ?

I'm not sure I would move those cabinets. They look like they are using the space pretty efficently. Maybe add something to the left of them and close in that area right under the stairs.

Also moved to the Gallery Section.

Thanks! I blew insulation in the ceiling. It's a bit over a ft deep for what should be R38. It's done well this summer as far as being easy to cool.

As far as the cabinets and the countertop I just feel as if they are somewhat trapped under the stairs. I've been thinking about building a wall to close in the stairs and putting the air compressor in that corner and then either having shelves or a closet under the stairs.

Think about this. When you pull that Super Duty in to work on it, you won't have much room in front of it for a bench. Leaving the bench where it's at, frees up the area in front of the vehicles to work on them.

In the end, your shop and your decision, but either way, you still have a nice place to work.

Totally agree on that. Sadly the super duty is gone :(

Anyways. My goal is to have nothing permanent along the back wall of the garage so I can get the maximum usable length. It's a tight fit lengthwise with anything bigger than my 4Runner in there. At least as far as having room to actually work.

Sad to hear the Super Duty is gone. I stuff mine (CCSB) in a 24' deep garage as well and there is absolutely no extra room.

Yep it's definitely not big enough to be working on a crew cab truck. I've had a few cclb trucks in here to detail and it's not fun.
