Finally have something to start a thread about. I've been working out of my extra deep 2 car garage for a while now, last year I rented a 800 sq feet shop, but the cost of rent/insurance just didn't make it feasible for the volume of work I do. We decided to add on onto our house, since we'll be most likely staying in it long term. The new shop will be 24' wide by 34' deep. Single 12x9 door in the front, 8x7 door in the back (just in case I ever need to access my backyard.

Here's the space I have to work with. The new structure will fit just within the setbacks.

I'm not seeing any pictures, but look forward to watching this build.

Here's my drawing in Sketchup just to see what the final product will look like.

As it sits now. Footings are poured. Just waiting for the forms to come off and get it inspected.

Looks good. Any plan to open it up to the existing space?

The old garage will be a "clean" space, with some storage shelves for less frequently used items, bikes, and two cars. The new space is for metal fabrication, so metal/grinding dust will be an issue and I'd like to keep two separate, at least for now.

This is awesome !! What type of work do you do ??

My day job is sitting on the computer all day. My side-gig, "therapy" as I call it, is metal fabrication, mostly 4x4 related stuff. Welding, tube bending, CNC plasma cutting. Currently all jammed into my two car garage, I can't wait to spread out.

Here’s how the old and new roofs are being tied together.

Getting closer, just waiting for the doors and I can start on running wiring and epoxy the floor.

Brick veneer completed on the front to visually tie the new garage with the house.

Very nice... Now I understand why the garage is not centered - make sense for the stationary equipment on one side of the garage.
