Next step was the framing of the stair case and prewiring electrical. I boxed in the the steel support posts and created a closet space below the stairs. This will be for big items like generator, welder, compressor, etc...

My buddy G-man came across an awesome bi-fold door that covers floor to ceiling. It was a security door from a shopping mall. I installed this to separate the back shop from the front portion of the garage where we will be parking the cars. This was a great idea, as it allows me to have the option of heating just the shop or the entire garage. Plus it looks cool!

The dry wall & mud went extremely fast. The only problem was the weather. The weekend I planned for mud the temps dropped and I couldn't get it to set! I called everyone that had a heater and plugged them in. I lost a day for this, but it was worth the wait. It turned out great.

Thanks to my sister-in-law for spending the weekend with me to do the job I hate the most.... PAINT! We were able to prime & paint in 3 days & was well worth the trade off to build her a shed.

I'm almost moved in... for the past year I have had all my 'stuff' in a couple of the 10x20 portable garages. Although the tents did serve the purpose, it was a pain to find anything. I just finished the gas lines and the heat is on. I hope to be organized soon and will post some new pics!

Just started to get the itch again.... time to start working on the loft. It feels like starting over again after finishing the main level. Back to electrical, insulation & drywall!

How heavy is that bi-fold door? They tore one out of a confrence room at work, it was only a few years old and looked like brand new. I was going to take it until I tried to move it, I could not even pickup one end. I decided that I did not need it. Plus it was to tall and I did not see any good way to cut it down.

I worked at the loft all spring and made some decent progress.... All of the electrical, insulation & drywall is complete. My sister-in-law saved the day again by spending another weekend with me to paint. The flooring has been delivered, however decided to take the summer off and enjoy some camping & cruising on the motorcycle. I will post some loft pictures soon.

BARN ONE: The doors are quite heavy - all aluminum frame work with glass inserts. Guessing around 600lbs? It took 3 of us to stand it up and then we started to feed it into the track. The framing is mounted to the triple truss that divides the staircase. Lots of support there.

Nice work on the garage, can't wait to see more pics of it...

Nice tractor too! I have a 1964 International (B414 Gas). Never seen a loader like yours has with the grill on it though (if that's what it is up front).

This old girl is a 1956 (504) diesel. I had the bucket off to lift the trusses up with chains. The front is just a crash bar to protect the rad. I couldn't have done the project without this tractor and my 3pt back-hoe!

Okay, we'll let you go play outside camping and cruising, but we want to see pics of the upstairs before you take off; you don't even have to have the finish flooring in the pics! lol

It really is a good looking building and it must feel great after toiling away in the block garage for years. Your buddy G-man deserves a big shout-out for the score on those sliders; they indeed are very cool, and this winter they are going to keep your shop area nice and toasty!

I'll bet your boys are 'chomping at the bit' to take over that upstairs space.

Interesting. Never seen an IH loader with that crash bar (if it is indeed an original IH loader). But for that matter, I have an IH 1501 loader on mine, and my uncle also has a IH 1501 on a B414 he bought recently and the loaders aren't made the same, odd.

First... let me express my sincere apology for not posting in 2 years! Somehow life got in the way. Now that my garage is complete and knowing I cannot leave anything unfinished, I'm back to wrap up my build on the garage journal.

So here we go....

Here’s the front half where we park our vehicles. I added the checker plate border in the red stripe on the walls. Also, installed the wall cabinets against the stair case wall. Never enough storage... The stairs up to the loft were stained on the tread and the risers painted black to stick with the theme.

This is great space to pull in and unload/load your stuff out of the cold. Plenty of room to walk around the vehicles.

Working our way to the back shop, just slide the glass wall out of the way. By far the greatest idea suggested to me.

Here’s my bike shop. Having the lift certainly makes wrenching on projects much more enjoyable. The cabinets and bench all fit in perfectly. I added the computer to the work space for those ‘just google it’ moments or to do updates on the Garage Journal!!

C’mon upstairs for a beer. I carried the garage colours up to the loft with red leather furniture and grey walls. The big bar height table is a great place to host friends. The walk out doors on back is a 12x24 deck that overlooks the property.

The bar.

I knew this was the spot for my bar top, but really didn't know what to put there. After many drawings and lots of conversation, this is what I came up with.... with the help from my buddy 'Schoonz'.

I purchased a keg-erator that comes complete with fridge, tap and air tank.
From there, we organized the cabinets to maximize storage. The air tank typically mounts to the rear of the fridge, however I mounted it inside the corner cabinet with enough clearance for the lazy susan inside.

My family and I saved wine corks for several years. A garbage bag full to be exact! I built a plywood base and framed it with oak. There's a routered edge that the glass top fits in. I brought this base & frame to the glass shop and had them fit the glass and cut a 5" hole where the tap would pass through. I used some black toilet flanges to make up the base for the beer tap to mount to. I didn't want to have any pressure on the glass from the tap.

Organized all the corks to fit precisely and then strung some very small LED lights around the perimeter. I really like the look of this creation.

Love that counter top, very creative. We also save corks so this is an appealing idea. Didn't notice that you were in Canada, more importantly Ontario before i saw that Vintages magazine.

Awesome.

What's not to like? Great build. Nice 1st floor layout; the accordion door was a great find. I'm envious of the loft, aka, the Boyz room. The color scheme works really well too.

I hope you post some of your projects that happen in your garage!
