After about 2 years of planning, I finally got underway on my garage build. The garage/workshop will be 24x40 and attached to the house via a 8x18 connector/breezeway. Some design pics are shown below. I still have a few days to figure out if I want a man door or not. The back part of the garage will be used for a small wood shop or possibly a big shed.

The excavator came on Sunday and got the excavation done. Footings going in today.

Well, the connector for the garage was supposed to be 8'x18' but the concrete contractor placed the footings so that the connector will now have to be 8' 4" x 18' 8". I went out to measure it today when I got home from work and found that it was wrong, what an idiot. I was hopping mad and called him up and he was at my house in 30 minutes. He agrees that it is wrong......WTF?????

Now, what am I supposed to do? Any one else deal with incorrectly placed footings? I can make it work but what a pain in the neck. The contractor suggested pouring another 4" footing next to the ones he screwed up but I don't see how this would help. If I stay with the 8x18 design, this would require the blocks to be placed right on the edge of the footings he poured so pouring another footing next to the existing one would add no value.

Oh and another problem I found: The top of the block for the breezeway was supposed to line up with the block for the existing house. To make this happen, required 8 rows of blocks, or 64" below the level of the house block. Well I measured this and the top of the footer is 67" down, that is a 3" difference. He says he will make it up in mortar????

The foundation work is moving along. The mason should have the walls completed and parged by Saturday. Excavator should have backfill complete by Monday.
