I hope someone can point me in the right direction! I recently inherited an old Craftsman rolling tool chest (crown logo, so late 60s/early 70s?), and I'm looking for a top chest that will fit it. The distance between the top rails is ~25 1/8 in., and the majority of top boxes I can find are 26", with the occasional 24" combo. I'm considering a Stanley top box that's 23 1/2" wide, but I'd like it to fit snugly. Does anyone know of a consumer-grade top box that's 25 inches wide?

I think the vast majority of new boxes are 26". I know my older "Heritage" box is narrower, but I haven't measured it. I would guess you're gunna have to find a box from that era.

I have an old Craftsman top box in great condition from late 70s that thought it might have worked but just measured it and it's also 26"+ (closer to 26 1/8").

What about putting some rubber feet on bottom or cutting a base from 3/4" plywood or something and letting a standard box overhang? 1/2" on either side shouldn't be that bad. Personally I think you'd be better off staying with a standard size box which will give you a little more room too. If you decide to upgrade in future you won't need to buy whole set.

I have a 25" Craftsman (red and gray) that sits on top of a 25" Powerbilt cabinet. Both boxes appear to have been built by Waterloo.

I put a Kennedy 26-1/2" Machininst box on top of a Craftsman 26" lower by cutting a sheet of plywood to put on top of the lower to raise the level above the lip. Since I don't do any hard cornering with it, it hasn't shifted in over 25 years!

Thought I was going to be able to make you a heckuva deal; I've got an old Craftsman machinist chest which needs a new home. Just measured it and it's 26-5/8".

Though I hadn't thought of cgrutt's idea about using rubber feet...Hmmm...
