Not a problem Scott, it was a really quick calculation and is good info to have if you ever do need to use it for something. I don't know how useful a single beam would be but if you had a gantry crane or full bridge crane setup, that would make the engine lift almost obsolete. :)

I am right behind you. It is a lot like Christmas finding stuff you think is cool you didn't remember having. It's even better when your over 60 lol.
Love the wall treatment!!!

Cheers!

Haven't added too much to the garage lately, just minor things. Have been enjoying using it as a garage like it should be, working on cars, fixing stuff for the house, etc.

Some new additions to share;

Put in a roll up garage door screen after the mosquito swarm that came from so much rain in June. Really helps out. Was super easy to install and works great!

My new friend "Billy" that visits me every so often-

IMG_6754_zpsqwf8yszv.jpg

Tore out the nasty, grungy, sticky fluorescent fixtures in the back and started getting the new Ikea FOTO barn lamps in place. Running 2 boxes of 4 outlets each to split to 8 hanging lights for the back area.

Found a bird nest with a bird carcass above one light. :sad:

IMG_6936_zpsrvpgyjgc.jpg

Was able to utilize the power feed from the fluorescents and branched across with another outlet so everything still runs from the wall switch. Running 60 watt LED bulbs and they seem to light up the place pretty well so far. Should have the balance of new lights installed this weekend.

A few updates to throw in; got the remaining cabinet units and counter top to complete the North side storage units and counter top over Labor Day weekend. I'm loving all the work space! It was in the mid 90's all weekend so working with the doors closed kept it cooler inside. :eek:

Ikea stuff is so easy and cool to build. And relatively inexpensive. This whole corner cost me about $1,500 and that includes the fancy closers on the drawers and doors. The counter tops are very durable and resistant to a lot of stuff.

I was going to cut an end panel to mount to the mini fridge door but first I'm going to paint it satin black to see how it looks.

Just realized I hadn't posted photos of the remaining barn lamps installed at the back of the shop. So far they give off some good bright light. Need to get a few more installed at the front half now to replace the decrepit old fluorescent fixtures.

I really like the garage and the way you are doing it up! Thank goodness you got it insulated, I was shivering just looking at it.... Mine was not insulated, way better now!

Scott,
Your proof of what happens with thought and ingenuity.
I absolutely love what you have done so far and where your going with your build.
I predict that will be many enjoyable days spent in that shop; well done!

Cheers!

Thanks a bunch for the compliments. It's been fun and hard work. There's still a bit more to do but for now have been enjoying using it to work on the big and little toys. And lounging with some cold ones.
:beer:

Scooter cooler: That's something I threw together on a hot July 4th for a friends annual party. It became a local hit of sorts and I've built 7 of them to date. Lots of fun. Will haul 240 lbs but eventually the batteries have to be replaced and it's a pain pulling it all apart. I've got a like-new 2 cycle weed wacker that is too bulky and fussy to use so I'm leaning towards stripping it down and going gas on the scooter. ;)

Love the creativity in this garage design. Never thought about using plywood to actually make it LOOK good too. I only thought about it because I didn't want to drywall.

Really enjoyed this one. The only thing I can see that I would hate - dusting all the collectibles you have in that garage! Man, I hated dusting them in my room - let alone in a garage!

But bravo - awesome man cave!

Thanks for the nice comments. I love my new man cave! A few minor updates on the lounge area to add;

Painted the mini fridge satin black and added an extra Ikea handle to it to match the cabinets. Also added to the shelves to put out more collectibles. And finally got rid of the last of the nasty, flickering and burned out CFL lights and replaced with LED equivalents. Now the entire garage is lit with LED with the exception of the hi intensity CFL over the workbench.

Cut the heads off of the mounting screws for the handle.

20150928_220626_zpsmliwmenm.jpg

I figured I would have to epoxy the screws into the holes I drilled into the fridge door but by making the holes slightly smaller they pressed in with a nice snug fit. Came out great!

Mounted the face panel on the end cabinet to complete it all;

20150929_211241_zpsvrfnogx2.jpg

Here you can see the additional shelves added to the collectibles wall and the cool stools I junk picked from work (which will be painted a metallic onyx color). Eventually I want to ditch the 30 year old weight bench and find a small, pre-owned home gym center to put in that area.

20150929_215226_zpspgs7yhms.jpg

Tore down the last of the flush mount CFL fixtures above the big door and replaced with new permanent LED units. Man what a difference in lighting. The old CFL ballasts were SO nasty and burned up.

Temps haven't been too bad, but at night we've popped the heater a few times on as it's gone down to the 40's a few nights. It's nice to get out of the hot tub and come in the garage to dry off. :D

Still need to insulate the big door and the West wall along with the last panels on that wall.

Spotted Cow, excellent choice. Just got back from a weekend trip to New Glarus myself to restock the garagerator.

:thumbup: Yep that's been my favorite for a few years. Always grab some across the border or a friend will get some for me. Gotta make a trip to the brewery some day. Allagash White is another favorite.
