Our siding is chipped and the corners are coming off. Anyone have any experience painting and patching this stuff or should it be replaced. Got a price on adding 3/8"foil and new siding overtop but not sure if it is the way to go.

I can get pics in the daylight.

Tear it off and replace. There is a reason that it it no longer manufactured. There was a (or several) lawsuit filed due to the premature deterioration of the product from water penatration. You're supposed to use specific primers and paint and make sure the backsides are prepared properly before installation, but very few people did. The last thing you want is to side over it with foil trapping moisture in the X90 causing further degradation.

Hey Sureshot - I see you're from Saskatchewan. A few years ago I watched a show with Shell Busy where he was talking about X90. His take was that it was fine to repaint it, but you have to really sand it down well, use a good primer, and then a top quality paint.

My house is stucco, so I've no personal experience with it, however.

Residing is always an option, but I think I would want to remove the siding before installing something new over top. That seems like it could cause a lot of problems down the road.

I cut the bottom 6" off and ran hardy board around my house, but it rotted above that. Next I just covered it with vinyl siding and haven't had a problem. I don't think its necessary to remove the old. Best part is no more painting, just wash it it once a year. The insolated siding would be good up north.

I think you should do away with your X-90 siding and get new vinyl siding. It's practically maintenance-free and highly durable. Call the local contractors and ask for references and estimates. You can even ask for pictures of the previous work they have done to get an idea of what kind of job they do. The other option is to visit a local home improvement store and see what they offer in terms of vinyl siding.

Steel siding is better , but if you live in a more humid climate you may be able to get away with vinyl siding. our heat , and dry climate here in Northern Nevada kill's vinyl siding like theres no tomorrow, glad my house already had steel
