Hi all

August 2014 I bought a nice house near Herning, Denmark with my girlfreind.

Beside the house there was an old barn looking building from the mid seventies. It was used for farm smith/plumber workshop until the late eighties and since then it has been used for barn and horses, lived it's own life, falling apart year by year with no maintenance.

I don´t think no one of our new neighbours really believed that somone could get a good garage out of it......:lol_hitti

I started back in September 2014 with taking of the old roof so i could make a new one before winter time.

These first pictures are from the start September 2014, I will be posting pictures and explanation from then until now once in a while.

I stripped it complete from all wood and got it all rebuild with new roof batten, (i´m not sure about the right english word). only the steel construction and walls were left

After rebuilding the woodwork I put steel roof on it, and insulated with 100 mm "rockwoll" and plastic steam protection. The ceiling was then cover with cement fiber wood plates (Troldtekt.)

That roof really looks good. Will you be plastering the masonry walls? Expensive I would think but with that roof it really needs to be done at some point.

The vaulted steel framing give you a lot of interior volume and no posts scattered about. Really a nice work environment.

How big is it? What kind of grown up boy toys will you play with inside once it is finished?

Thanks for all the "international" welcome:thumbup:, it´s good to see there are others Danes in here to.

I choose the roof because it has the same contour as at typical danish brick roof tiles and I would like to put that on the house we are living in at some time.

But steel was cheaper and easier on the garage, it has the underside covered with some kind of white fabric that prevent condensation called "drop stop". And it has 30 years guarantee on the surface.

And then the walls did look like ****..... compared to the nice new roof.
Because of the Danish climate I wanted to insulate the walls. But I liked the masonry walls on the inside. I then put 100 mm = 3 15/16" insulation (US knauf mineral woll) at the walls in a wooden frame, covered it with a diffusion open windstop, as you can use under brick tile roof.

As the outer layer I chose sinus formed steel in anthracite grey as our living house beside the garage.

The garage are 250 m2 = 2690.978 Square Feet

Beautiful ranch you have there. Once you're out in the country you can never go back to the rat race.

@Leoruiz you are right.... I have lived in the "city jungle" for some years for education, but I am born and raised on the country on a little old fashioned cattle farm. So the country side is were i´m gonna get old and live my life.

I had an opportunity to make a god garage/workshop on my parents farm that I have used until now, but now is the time to have my own. I made the first one in my fathers barn, so I have tried it before...;)

Here are some pictures of my old garage and some of my toy, working with all kind of technique have always been my only hobby.

On my new garage I have chosen to pay a local professional carpenter to help me out and make all the important construction. So together with all my spare time and knowledge from this first garage, I have manged to get a lot of work done in the last year on the new garage.

Amazing build.

I think it worked out very well. The thing I like about it is the size and the high ceiling. :)

I had new door and windows mounted and a terrace door against the fields so I can enjoy the panorama view over the landscape from inside.

In the front I had some of the dirt layer scraped and moved so i could put on a layer of granit gravel

And some times you just need a break and a beer :beer2:

Thanks

Ive painted it with some concrete based paint called "skalcem", and started to put some things on the walls and move some of my tools and equipment from the old garage.

Good progress J.O.V

You know Im quite jealous on how much space you have.
If I had to fit in all your fabrication machines my shop would have been full by now. :)

Hope there will be plenty of time in the future to finish off your car projects.
