Hello,
I currently have a 24x24x10 pole building. Soon, I am going to be adding a 40x48x14 to the 24x24. The garage will be insulated. I would like to have heat and AC but depending on the cost I may just go with heat. I have been looking online and split heat pumps with air handlers (like a house). 4-5 ton units. How are the self contained units? I know I could get an oil fired furnace and run diesel fuel through it. Any suggestions? I also live in WV.

Thanks!

Do you have access, willingness to cut wood or will your insurance company insure it ? If you're not buying it, wood heat can be cheap.

If you are considering wood, check with your insurance. My neighbor sells insurance and says most companies won't touch buildings with wood stoves.

My friend was working at a Trane distributor when I was looking at options for my garage last year. I talked to a lot of folks who worked there as well as installers who got systems/parts there. Consensus was that folks preferred conventional split systems to mini splits for serviceability.

I was thinking of a oil fired furnace for the heat. Ill only be using it in the evenings and weekends, so Ill need something to heat up the area pretty reasonably fast.
