Does anyone run a side cabinet on a 26" box? I've heard it can get wobbly, but seems like a good way to get some extra space without going all the way to a big roll chest.

doesn't work out bad if not rolling your cabinet much.
how wobbly it is really depends on rigidity of the 26" box in question and how much weight you intend stuffing into the side cabinet .
cheaper 26" cabinets likely benefit from stiffening plate/frame and wheel upgrade to base .

A handful of guys at work run them, I haven't heard of any issues. It should be noted that the guys who use them also have a top chest, so the center of gravity is definitely over the casters. If you had a light main chest and a heavy side, I could see where it could get squirrely.

I'd probably get the HF box and side chest, which definitely has some more weight to it than a Craftman or something. The side cabinet would just have my smaller random things like electrical/soldering stuff, air chucks, punches, panel poppers, etc. Everything heavy is going into the main box and an older snap on 26" top box, so it'll be weighed down pretty well. Sounds like I might be good to go, maybe with adding some stiffening.

Side cabinets don't get that much weight in them because of the narrow drawers. If you do get a wide roller in the future side cabinets make great grinder stands (or similar). My belt grinder is on an old beach side cab that has wheels installed under it and it's great.

I have a side cabinet and it loaded with some weight,
surprising what can get in them if work with layout.
It mainly tightly packed with consumable fittings and speciality tools .
It on a 56" box not a 26" but I see no issue unless intending roll it around a lot, The new 22" deep HF side cabinets are indeed quite narrow drawer width .
I would agree the 44" box a better choice, only advantage with 26 and side cabinet is easier handling/loading in truck or trailer etc .
