Sears has a Gladiator stack (not sure if the sell them separately), that was better then the rest of the tinny **** I looked at back in December. I don't remember the price but it wasn't extravagant IIR.

Speaking of 26" boxes, I was always curious: with all the rave reviews the 42" HF gets from users here, how does their 26" unit stack up for home use?

I realize for the price of the top and bottom unit in 25" size, a 42" bottom chest can be had and probably offer the same amount or more storage, but I was curious if anyone on here owns the 26" HF and their thoughts.

Mine is a very good quality box, I use it semi professionally.

I looked at the 26" stacked box at HF today. It's really solid and light years better than crapsman or husky.

For what you want to spend new, hf is your only option. Look around online, you may be able to find a deal on spg international somewhere, but any other name brands will be out of your price range, ie SO and kennedy.

I would agree. I was offered one of the black ones in like new condition for free. After looking at it I bought a different one.

I agree on the red gloss finish HF 26" stack. Should be same slides and const. as the 41/42/44" box based upon my latest examination.

I have a current house with a basement that I store many of my tools in thats entrance/exit to the basement makes it near impossible to fit anything over 26" wide down there. Thus multiple 26" to 30" boxes and carts.

The top/bottom HF 26" combo has a current coupon for both together for $289 IIRC.

If you wnat bearing slides, then if not HF, C'man or Masterforce (menards) may get you around $200. I think I also saw a stainless lift lid cart/box with full dwrs in 26" (Husky ) at Home Depot for under $200 last month.

i will never buy task force again i"ll stack my tools in milk crates first

I'd stack them in milk crates then... until either something popped up in my price range, or until I saved enough money to buy what I really needed.

When I started out, I carried tools in 5 gallon buckets until I could buy the right box without wasting money along the way.

Where is this coupon? At that price it's a great deal.

What did you save up for? I need to get something new soon. I have an old 5 drawer Craftsman bottom from 1979 that I bought used on CL but I could use more drawers. This one has the storage bin on the bottom instead of drawers but the drawers I have are almost full. I debate between the full stack 26" HF or the 44" bottom only. I would rather buy a decent toolbox and better tools than an expensive toolbox and not have money to buy tools.

I was in Home Depot and they had a Husky 26" combo on sale for 189. I believe it was a 4 drawer bottom and 3 drawer top. Seemed pretty decent for a made in China box. maybe what you're looking for. :dunno:
