I’ve been busy building this for our mudroom, so I haven’t done much to the Shop recently. I did order a new welder yesterday. Miller Multimatic 220!

801789aeb94896b4de513b47053b4009.jpg

Also set up a temporary grinding area using an awesome metal cabinet I found for 10$ under my portable welding table. I needed a belt sander for a project and have yet to find a decent one used. I grabbed the HF one for the time being. It mostly works.

Also added to my clamps with a Ace rewards rebate.

So after getting the new welder setup, I made some changes to the dirty side of my shop. I plan on running a welding curtain on a track around the welding and grinding area.

I threw up some lights temporarily because I have a welding job coming in.

1fda969a4a344353c61085a7730a154f.jpg

I had to make up some cables for the welder. Fortunately I had some power cable left over from a previous project so I only had to buy the ends.

c6111f6fa3b34f6b1da52e57d587a345.jpg

I also found a heavy duty 14” 20amp abrasive chop saw used locally. As well as a larger shop vac.

e88eaec51e4d89adf77ca7eb4d6e09bb.jpg

I finally got around to rebuilding the little 6” Dayton bench grinder.

346ff9a70c3d119c16a22d8381d5083d.jpg

While at Home Depot to buy some lumber for a quick work bench I saw the rolling cart on Special Buy for just under $200. Saved me the time to build one and it stores a lot in the cabinet.

139bd84af292b7debae53d75fb13d1bd.jpg

I really need to get back on insulating and finishing the interior walls.

I guess I should also mention the booth I’m building in our kitchen. I’ve used scraps from the mudroom organizer to build most of it. I need to finish sand, stain, and poly before we make the cushion. The top hinges up to store our folding chairs.

Actually got some work done ON my shop today!

Stub wall to separate the welding & grinding area.

This wall also will support my material storage platform that will extend over to the right to meet up with the top of my compressor closet.

The garage looks great, and the scenery around it, too, but I don't envy you trying to insulate any part of it during a Montana winter. Good luck!

Thanks! Winter has come and gone. Time for me to get moving!

Continued work on my compressor closet and material rack today. Also found a narrow door in the attic left over from construction. I’ll use this for the compressor closet.

East wall is up.

Upper frame mounted.

Next up are remaining walls of the compressor closet and door; then stringers and ply for material storage above.

Your garage conversion project is really shaping up nicely. I like everything you're doing to maximize the available space. Great job on that kitchen bench too. Extra kudos for building it with scraps from the (also great) mudroom organizer project. Your aptitude and skills for metalworking are certainly translating well into woodworking.

I'm a former professional musician, so I couldn't help but notice the sound reinforcement gear stored next to the compressor room. If you don't mind me asking, are you a DJ or a musician?

Do you plan on adding insulation to the compressor closet area before you add the plywood and walls?

I have been following you build since the first post. The two fine wood working projects turned out great.

Thanks!

I’ve DJ’d for 20 years and run shows. This is my small project PA. 4)18” EV subs and a pair of EV Eliminator tops powered by 3) QSC RMX 2450s and a Mackie 1604fx.

Thanks! The wood stuff is coming along. Much different than metal.

Yes I will insulate the compressor closet when I finish out the rest of the walls.

Nice work you've done on your space. I had that same compressor for off site work, and it is truly a noisy bast***. Mike

Haha! That’s actually my brother-in-laws compressor. His trailer broke down while moving past us out to Alaska last Summer. His stuff is still here.

I plan on getting a large vertical belt driven compressor in the future.

What’s the plan to finish both of the mud room bench and the other one?

The mudroom organizer is stained, poly’d and in place.

My Wife is decided on color for the kitchen booth.

New material shelf let me clear off the floor......

01e334dfe62217723e672d06c580a3ab.jpg

......to make room for this!

Grabbed a 1947 steel desk with 2 vises for $75 this morning. The plan is to order a piece of 3/8” steel plate to cap the desk for my new welding table. I will weld pads and adjustable feet on the legs to adjust height and level.

759c1aaac50345809993ca4db2bb7d22.jpg

The vises happened to be little versions of vises I already have. [emoji3]

Also snagged this for $80 at a pawn shop. It’s pretty clean.

Nice! I love me a good matabo. I still need to pick up a short handle one like that. Mines a long handle but will cut through anything without getting bogged down.

I bought this yesterday morning and while at Lowe’s yesterday evening I saw Metabo HTP for much cheaper. Looks like a Hitachi takeover. They had a 2-pack of 4.5” grinders for $70!

Insulated the East side of the shop after work today. Only one wall to go in the main shop. Compressor closet will get special attention.

Now I get to roll up the big extension cord that’s been running along my back wall!

On to insulating the North wall.

My Wife has officially invested in my business venture. Tonight she bought me a Miller Spectrum 375 X-TREME plasma cutter!

baa9a97fb7dae99d365d54a4a864af1d.jpg

$740 used locally. I just ordered a pack of consumables and some drag tips.

I must say it looks nice next to my Multimatic 220ac/dc!

Just read this from the beginning, the shop has really come a long way in terms of the layout and equipment too. Nice job!

That Astro looks familiar, may be I saw it on Expedition Portal or perhaps similar to the one I'm thinking of.

Thanks! I’m really hoping I can finish this shop soon So I can start working from home.

The van build is on Astro Safari.com forums.

Found a drill press for sale yesterday. Went to look at it and the guy was selling off his entire Dads shop after he passed.

So much cool stuff. The guy used to make canons of all sizes. He had welding, machining, reloading, woodworking and blacksmithing tools.

I only had so much cash but was able to grab a few extras on top of the drill press.

NPT dies, Hanson number and letter punches, Craftsman large tap handle, aluminum corner clamps, and large dividers/compass.

16speed DuraCraft floor drill press with Morse taper, light and heavy cast base. Included the cross-slide vise.

Are you planning any insulation along the bottom of the wall where the concrete is?

Mshop looks good with the recent work and new tools.

Thanks! I wasn’t planning on insulating the concrete wall. Is that commonly done? I’m no builder. Lol
