I seek some input from you all on a "daylight" lighting plan for my future 28 x 24 stand alone garage. I am looking for lighting to be used mainly in auto detailing. I am not technology savvy to play with a lot of the cad software to show a design. It will have 2 single garage doors. Will be 24 ft deep. Will have scissored trusses for high ceilings. T5 and T8 plan would be very helpful. Any assistance in this would be greatly appreciated. I am humbled everyday with the skills on this site...thanks Bill

Very happy with them so far. Quick and quiet! They allow me to have a clear ceiling for my lift. (soon to be ordered)

Ok so here is my thought...
2 8'x4 bulb T5s rear of garage
2 8'x 4 bulb T5s front of garage
2 4'x1 T5s on each side
2 4'x1 T5s down the middle
switched to turn half the room on with dual switches

Thoughts?

I scored some T8 drop in fixtures at a very reasonable price from a store remodel job that I found on craigslist. I have 24x34 3 bay garage with scissor trusses also. I'm going to put 4 2 bulb fixtures along each wall (9') and suspend 4 4 bulb fixtures at 9' between each bay. 4 more 4 bulb fixtures will be ceiling mounted in my
15x20 shop area. Between the cost of the fixtures and the cost of the bulbs
T5s are out of my comfort zone.

P.S. The seller had many more for sale as of 2 days ago so if you are in the San Antonio area, check it out

I have just completed re-doing the interior of a commercial bay I own and use for a hobby shop/man cave. It is 20 x 30 with a 12 foot ceiling. I installed 36 4 inch steel boxes with a cheap porcelain incandescent bulb fixture and an 18 inch diameter shade I made out of 1/8th inch PVC sheet. The fixtures are arranged in four rows of nine on three circuits. The spacing is such that there is a bulb approximately 5 feet in all directions. I use 100 watt equivalent, 23 watt actual, 5000k color rating CFL bulbs. There is very little shadow and while I have not actually measured the lighting level it is very bright. The total wattage for the shop is less that one KW. There are no ballast to burn out and there is no flicker. If I break a bulb or one burns out I only need replace a two dollar bulb. The only down side is they take about a minute to get completely bright.
I did this somewhat crudely in my garage at home when I got tired of replacing tube type fixtures, the results were so good that it was clear to me what to do in my new shop. Everyone comments on the lighting when they visit my shop.
