My soil failed the non-frost susceptible test (for US, would be ok in Europe) do I have to frost protect foundation. Was planning on footer and block stem walls (dry lay and surface bond) - which rise 2 to 6 courses above finished floor. I can add 4 courses (90 blocks each) below grade and get below frost line - $1200-1500 for additional masonry materials - or go SFPF route with foam - 52 pieces 2"x4'x8' - $2000-2200 for 52 pc. Masonry requires 32" deeper excavation for 120' footer, foam requires 16" over 36' x 40' - some of which is cutting into 3' of hill - so much more volume of dirt removed.
I'm inclined to go deeper and use more masonry - something I've done - instead of burying foam. It's 100% diy - no paid labor - except slab and may live with gravel for a while. All cold storage - I have heated shop space else where - and at almost 70 don't expect need to increase.
