I have seen some ugly paint in my time but that would rank in the top 5 worst...they would have to be alot of damn tools and 5k less so i could pay to get it painted.:spit:

The teal ain't bad.

I'm just wondering about the "brand new" bit - what dealer is getting the shaft here, because at $75K brand new, that surely ain't paid for yet...

I have a teal one, it was purchased in 1999. I didn't know you could still get that color (for some of the reasons mentioned above i guess...) So I too wonder about the brand new claim.

I have never understood the idea of just selling all the tools as one package, and who in the hell would buy it without knowing EXACTLY what all is in the box? And, do these 10k+ "tool box full of tools" packages that people sell EVER get bought?

We had a guy at work decide he wanted out of the business, and immediately. He made an itemized list of EVERYTHING in his box with a firm, but cheap price. Took the list to nearby dealerships, as well as our own, and by the end of the day, had Six Thousand Dollars (6,000!) in his pocket. That is the way to get out, if you decide you never want to turn a wrench again.

Tools are like guns to me, you never sell it, ever, but to some people, I guess they see tools only from the cash-making side, but to me, its a passion and a survival.

I love the colour! That is the "Sea Foam Green" that I want to paint my '55 (when I find the right one). My dad had a '57 that colour. If I had a few $k I might try to spark a deal with him. I would never pay that much for one though!

Referencing the idea that if it's new, it's not paid for, probably not true.

Lots of guys get grants to open businesses, become mechanics, etc. Sometimes just loans but often outright gifts from the government.
Then they buy this stuff and don't really want to work so the stuff is sold.
I've seen it often, usually some guy gets out of prison and they set him up in a business, with grants and loans. Then the instant his probation or parole is up, the stuff is either sold or just abandoned.

Other guys buy this stuff on GI bill financing, then discover they don't like working on cars, so it gets sold.
Anytime you see a big matched set with lots of tools they are almost for sure not bought one at a time from a truck.

I saw a Mac that color once. Was a special edition if i remember right. It had a NHRA or like logo on the inside top lid. The guy I knew who had it won it in a contest or something. Was different to say the least.

Just so you know, we offered this guy $10,000 for this set up, and he had eBay set to automatically reject an offer at that level. It was all we were comfortable paying given the list of tools and the pictures. If you asked me, this thing will be around for a LONG time.

Most we have paid so far for a box full of tools is $7,000, that was for a packed double bank Macsimizer w/ top chest, plus tons of other stuff like compressor, floor jack, cabinets, etc.

As far as selling it as a packabe, parting out a collection like that is a huge undertaking, and probably the only way this seller will acheive somewhat closer to that price. But it could take several hundred eBay auctions to empty that box.

I think a lot of times, the people selling these complete boxes with the tools are just too lazy to make a list of what they have. Other times they owe money and want to take the cash and run. If this guy's setup truly cost $75,000, I highly doubt it's been paid off in full.

I have a hard time believing anyone is going to actually swoop down and pay someone $28,000 cash for this setup. $28,000 is more than a many people put as a down payment on a house. How many people in that industry have the kind of cash to drop in a lump sum like that? A lot of people are also not going to want to buy duplicates of tools they already have.

If I truly had $75,000 worth of tools and equipment, you better believe I would have a detailed list of exactly what I was selling and what price I wanted if I was liquidating. I would also make the effort to get the maximum amount and sell the tools individually if I had to, it's worth the extra effort if you can make thousands more.

These SO boxes will be haunting us for decades... :wtf:

Black will never go out of style be it on a car a suit or a tool box.

It is not the color it is the crack head behind the pricing that is the joke.

I owned one of the NHRA Teal Blue MAC boxes. I Gave it to my brother to get him started and 6 months later he traded it in on a KRL1022.

I’m staying out of the 28K tool box argument.:bounce:

I wouldn't be surprised, at Snap-On prices, if $28K was a great deal for the box and the contents.

I think this is another in a long-line of people that need to get a reality check, however, and start parting out their stuff.

I don't think either of my cars cost that much new, and anyone who's got $28K to dump on something like that today probably isn't going to buy used.

Thats not actually Sea Foam green. Sea Foam green is more green, thats a turquoise that GM used in the 50-60s which is still a cool color (I can't remember the GM name but the Ford color that was close was called Reef Aqua). I personally prefer Swiss aqua to go with my truck though.

As far as prices for stuff, if I had the money and the time the contents of that box might be worth $28k they might not.

I've got a question.

Why do people put items up for BIN with a best offer then DECLINE offers?

Doesn't in make more sense to counter every single offer? I mean, who cares if people are lowballing you, fire back a near full price offer!

The box is fugly, looks more like "Robin Egg" blue to me than teal.

He does have a pretty comprehensive set of tools there though.

If you filled that box up woth SO tools. You would not even get the top box full for the asking price.

As far as the color. It is ugly as hell.
