Fast forward to august and finally break some ground!

Footings dug and poured. I think it was almost 20 yards of concrete. The footing was a little over 14" wide and 42" deep.

Next was the block. One course of 8" and then another layer of 6"(width).

Then material was brought in for the garage slab base and compacted.

Roof gets sheeted and shingled.

Fascia and soffit..

Right now we a are waiting for materials for the front gable end of the garage. We are using a stone panel product for the lower 3' or so. Vinyl siding up to the lower end of the soffit, then vinyl cedar shakes up in the gable.

Hopefully it doesn't look tacky. We are just trying to avoid the typical look of a vinyl sided garage (at least from the front view).

My square foot max was 750 which is pretty generous for a small property.
The garage at my old house was 24x24. It was mostly cabinets and workbench with a nice opening in the center for working on cars and trucks.
I'm hoping this garage will accommodate parking the daily driver and leave room for a project area and workbench.

The floor is just raw concrete as of now.

I'm thinking rust bullet for the floor, but really on the fence as to whether I'll put the flakes down.

I love the look of the flakes, but like to monitor leaks, drips, and grease chunks to keep stuff from getting tracked elsewhere.

Nice looking shop !!

Curious why the tree had to be cut down, if not in footprint of garage ??

Also, is Oakland County in one of the Dakota states or what ?? S or N ??

Thanks for the compliments!

The base of the tree would have only been 3 or 4 feet from the footings. Half of the tree would have been hanging over the garage.

A good trimming would have gone a long way toward helping with the constant upkeep, but the silver maple is a quick growth tree that tends get damaged easily by storms.

Over the last 8 years we've had a lot of damage to the house and vehicles. All from the three silver maples. Plus the other tree lifted the patio and driveway which are getting replacement here soon.

In addition to all of that, I will need to have a path to roll the car dolly and utility trailer behind the garage.

More materials arrived and they were able finish up the siding.

Now we are waiting for the garage door.. uploadfromtaptalk1445454689856.jpguploadfromtaptalk1445454731505.jpg

Time to figure out what I'm doing with the floor. I was originally leaning towards 2 coats of Rust Bullet, partial flakes, and a coat of clear with traction additive.

Now I'm leaning towards maybe just a clear protective sealer of some sort. The SPGX product sounds good if I can get away without needing to grind or acid etch.

I would hold off on the floor just now....maybe do what I did...tossed down a gallon of sealer....that was 6 years ago....

I'm waiting until I finish up my other projects before I make the floor 'pretty'

You hear too many stories about guys damaging their new floor while they finish the garage inside.

ddawg16,
Now that so much time has passed and it's nearly winter I probably will wait to finish the floor until next summer.

By the way, your write-ups were great reading!

There has been a little progress in the last month or so.

The new driveway was poured in addition to a little sidewalk around two sides.

Mainly we are waiting on the garage door so we can get the final inspection. I am also waiting on the gas pipe run to the garage. Every time the guy is supposed to show up its raining or too muddy.

Once the trench is done and pipe inspection passed we can finally put down some sod to keep the dog out of the muck!
