It has been awhile since I have been on. I have been busy remodeling a 1904 Sears and Roebuck house we had moved on to our property. We were able to get it move in ready last year and then waited till the snow melted so we could do our addition with master bed and bath above.

We started the footings right after the frost thawed. Then it rained for a week straight.

The sun finally came out and my contractor got right to work.

My wife and I will be doing most of the interior ourselves so it will probably take most of the winter, but it is coming along.

This is really neat! How far did you move the house? Keep the pics coming.

Moved it a total of 15 miles. It was a little weird to see your house going down the road with your curtains flapping out the windows.

Floor joist are 2’x30’. We were hoping to be able to use 18”x30’ to give a little more room for the side walls but the engineer for the truss did not think that would be heavy enough.

Wife got the garage painted while I was at work and concrete guys got right over to pour the slabs. Now its time for back filling and hopefully some landscaping. She is waiting for me to do the front above the eyebrow.

With the help of my friends bucket truck and the sun coming out for a few days, we were able to get the house painted. Then we ran the under floor pex for radiant heat. We just used a staple up system with aluminum sheets and had it covered in 1.5” of closed cell foam. Also the plumber showed up, got the ruff in plumbing done.

Then the rain set in which gave me time to stain and seal the garage floor.

Even had alittle free time to build a bench out of the left over wood scraps.

Next days off I will finish the wiring and call the sheet rockers. Better get it move in ready because bird hunting season is coming quick.

Nice looking garage project going on here. Do you have anymore pictures of the house move? Any unforeseen issues before and after the move?

What was the history of the house and why did it have to be moved? Glad to see you were able to save the house and become part of your family's history and life.

Here is a few that I had on this computer. No big surprises on the move. Those came later after the remodel:D

The house has quite a history in our small town. It was one of the first homes of that size in the area. And it was rumored that the family I bought it from actually won it and most of the land in a poker game back in the 30’s. The family sold the house to me because they were sick of paying the heating bills in the winter months. His brothers house was tied into the water system of this house so he had to heat it even though it had been unoccupied since the 80’s. He sold it to me for the price of getting a new water system install in his brothers house.

We moved it to my wife’s grandmas old homestead that we had purchased some years back because the original house was lost to flooding.

Thanks for the update. Always interested in "The Rest of The Story". Which in this case was good.

Within a mile of the area where I grew up I knew of two houses that were each moved 1/4 to 1/2 mile of the original site. One was when they built the Washington Beltway (Rt 495) around DC and the other when the land was sold and built an office building. I am sure there are others but I do not know the history.
