28x48 Workshop/Garage Build

Hey guys,

Found this forum looking for ideas around my new construction shop project.

Been in the works for the last 2 years, we moved from our first home with the intention of finding a new home with a large garage shop. No luck with that after months of searching. So we bought a place we loved with room to build and set to work.

After several bids and quotes I decided to work with Permabilt to put in my shop. They took care of the permitting which was worthwhile for sure in my county.

Will post pictures of the build and how it evolved. 28x48x12 carport end with 2 11’ insulated overhead doors.

First steps were to remove a large pond and water feature the previous owner put in and relocate the play set from one side of the yard to the other.

The I needed to make room for drive way and access by limbing my trees up 20’ and removing the blackberry bushes and old debris from the drive way site.

Here’s our back yard after a bit of tree trimming.



Started by removing and relocating the sod from the lawn.



After that ordered in 60 yds of crushed rock





Spread but needed more to level.

Welcome! When I saw the comment about the blackberries, I thought to myself, I wonder if this person is from WA state. Scrolled up, and sure enough...

Hope the process goes smoothly for you. As a King County escapee, I totally get not wanting to do the permitting yourself. Are you in Kent city limits, or are you in county jurisdiction? In the county, it was ridiculously expensive to get through DDES's critical areas requirements and the health department's certification that it wouldn't affect the septic system.

Ha too funny! Ya in king county but outside of Kent city limits.

Getting the drainage plan approved took 4 try’s with county. But it’s done!

Oh and you are right on cost it was a killer over $6k

Fortunately the build is done and final is bought off so no more stress there! Here a teaser

Lots of brush removal put a good friends tractor to use throughout the build





Hauled a lot of brush away



Al cleared and ready



Then material delivery day came! The company was a bit ahead and we started 1 month early! Which was a nice change from the delays in permitting







Hard to believe that’s all it takes!

Once the materials were delivered got to play the waiting game for the build crew.

Oh and one pallet was delivered to the wrong job site! That was fun to track down.

Building start 9/9/19! (The rain started that day too)







And just like that my nice flat level pad was torn to shreds lol.
