Hello All-

After a couple years of lurking and getting ideas and motivation from other's threads, I thought it was finally time to start my own.

A little background -My wife and I bought the house about 10 years ago, but it only had a single stall attached, which is dedicated for the wife's vehicle. That means my woodshop went to the basement (which besides the constant dust and noise in the house, is actually pretty sweet). This was before the age of smart phones, so I dont really have any pictures from back then.

We finally got to a position where we were out of room, and just so happens the next door neighbor got foreclosed on (we knew this was coming for a while, and were planning on it). We jumped on the opportunity to purchase as soon as we could. Instant garage space!

The house was in poor condition, as could be expected in the circumstances, and we knew the end goal was the property and the garages. Along with the help of my family, I first disconnected the attached garage, and then out comes the big equipment, and down comes the house!

Along with the 2 stall garage, there was another building (we call the barn), covered in vines and trees.

More to come........

This left us with some cleanup to do, along with some major work. You can see the growth just on the yard light

There were so many vines, I found an entire riding lawnmower in the weeds. Luckily I didnt find it with my chainsaw first. Besides the cleanup, we found the barn had some structural issues. The first pic is one of the support posts I pulled out. I ended up making concrete posts dug down to 48", tied to white oak above grade. I also jacked up this side of the barn 7" to bring it back to level.

And here what it looked like after cleanup

And then starting work on the garage. I re-enclosed and sided the side that was attached to the house, added a paver patio on the corner (and my rain rock), and added a bumpout on the back so the motor of the boat could fit with no issues.

Then this last summer, I got around and painted the barn, and did some final landscaping around the garage, and here is where we are at today.

I'm going to try to keep this updated as possible now that the hard part of starting this thread is over. I'm hoping I can use this as a look back of the work Ive accomplished, and help keep me motivated.

So between my full time job, and 2 young children, I still try to get some stuff done. Here's a quick synopsis of where I'm currently at with some projects:

Late last year, my wife told me she wanted a fireplace in the house. So took out a window, framed in a bumpout, and here's were we stand

The surround isn't quite finished, I removed it and put it in the paint booth. Hopefully getting around to getting it installed soon.

I also finished a set of steps for the backdoor last fall

Also, after painting the barn went so well, we decided the barn needed new doors. The old ones were a 2x4 on edge frame, with a sheet of plywood facing and then the barn board. They are delaminating, and sagging. Looked at buying a standard set of double doors, but the cost lead me to say the fateful "I can build that". Not the greatest pictures, but this is the rails and stiles, it will get 3/4 tounge and groove slid in the middle, but I need to get those boards painted before installing. That is something that will probably wait until spring just due to the size.

And now you can see the basement shop. Maybe Ill get out and take pictures of the 2nd House garage and barn this afternoon, but it's pretty cold today.

Update from the weekend-Managed to swing by HD and pick up paint to repaint the fireplace wall before setting the surround. Turns out the paint we picked out nearly 10 years ago (Martha Stewart brand) has been discontinued for a while, but luckily I still had the original can, and had them color match. I was a little concerned about coverage, as we had the issue in the past (our kitchen took 5 coats of red to get complete coverage!), but since I was already going over the red, I didn't need to be concerned.

Let that dry, then had my wife help me slide the surround into place, tight fit, but got it persuaded in. Now a little trim work and caulk and the lower 1/2 will be finished. I will be replicating the design around the tv as well.

2nd project was my wife asked for a board on top the laundry machines. Grabbed a sheet of birch ply, and edge banded in some 3/4 white birch I had in my shop, stained, and added a couple coats of wipe on poly. I did screwed in a couple of cleats to prevent it from sliding forward, and between the machines for side to side movement. Brownie Points

Due to the below zero temps I usually don’t spend time in the garage, but needed to out of necessity this week. We had some snow roll through Friday, and when I tried to snowblow before work, I had issues with it running. I could get it to fire, then it would die off. Out came the shovel  So when I got home from work I dragged the snowblower back in and started looking it over. I thought it was a fuel delivery issue, but that checked out. Pulled the spark plug and it was fouled. Replaced it and it fires right up and ran great as always

Any advice what I did wrong to cause it to foul?

I did snag a couple pictures of the working side of the garage. Didn’t spend any time cleaning the bench since it was cold!! You can see my welder, followed by my HF toolbox, then some lower cabinets that have air compressor, grinders, power tools, air tools, and misc, some upper cabinets filled with fasteners, and then the large cabinet which has auto/small equipment maintenance supplies (oils, lubes, jackstands, extra spark plugs ), and finally my planer
