I am getting ready to hang lights in my garage and came across a craigslist ad for 2'x2' light fixtures for $10 each. They hold 4 T8 2' bulbs. Ad can be seen at link below. Any opinions on value of fixtures? Does this seem like a reasonable deal and any issues with using 2' fixtures instead of the standard 4'?

They look decent in the ad and the sellers says there are no problems with any of them.

look like pretty standard 2'x2' office fixtures from the 1990's to early 2000's.

should be fine in a garage, assuming they are actually 120V.

Most commercial office buildings use 277V for lighting, and universal ballasts weren't as common back then.

$10 is a pretty good deal, especially if they have bulbs.

Of course you cannot recess them in the ceiling if your joist/trusses are not far enough apart. If that happens, you could build trim boxes around them. Look at the price of new bulbs, you may find that these odd length bulbs are so expensive that its not worth it.

The F17T8 lamps are expensive compared to 4' lamps, but they use the same ballasts, some 2X2's use the U shaped lamps.
