Some of the sockets are Whitworth which might limit their usefulness.

It's the old British thread standard which is mostly obsolete. The hex sizes are different but up that large they might be close enough to use on some SAE or metric fasteners.

Which ones? How can you tell? I looked closely at the photos and while I can see the sizes on most of the sockets, I don't see anything that leads me to believe this 3/4 drive set has any Whitworth sockets in it.

I assume that is Canadian Dollars, I don't have any idea of the exchange rate right now, but, while the set is nice, it seems rather pricey. I've been piecing together a 3/4 set for my work toolbox and currently have...........

3/4 Bonney RHFT ratchet head with removable handle, used, About $20 invested.
15" New Britain extension, used, $5
8" Proto extension, new, $4
3" Snap On extension, new, $9 (bought from Ebay, long time ago)
7/8 Craftsman 12 pt
15/16" Williams 12 pt New... See my Avitar
1" Craftsman 12 pt
1-1/8" Herbrand 12 pt
1-5/16" Craftsman 12 pt
1-3/8 Craftsman 12 pt
1-7/16" Craftsman 12 pt
1-1/2" Blackhawk 12 pt
1-5/8" Williams 12 pt New
1-11/16 Wright 12 pt
1-3/4 Williams 12 pt
1-7/8 New Britain 12 pt
2" Craftsman 12 pt

The most I have paid for a socket was $5 and some were $3 or $4. I got some in a batch with the ratchet and sold off the Chinese ones and kept the others. I know I don't have a $100 in the whole thing. All American sockets in good condition.

Still looking for 1-1/16" 1-1/4" 1-9/16" 1-15/16" and sizes above 2 inch.

Also have extras, a 1-1/8 Billings 12 pt (cad plated some wear of the plating) and a 1-7/8" MAC 12 pt marked Sabina Ohio, with some chipping of the chrome. I'd be willing to swap for ones I don't have.

I believe all the Britool have BS on them...

The Cdn $ is virtually at par at present. That likely seems pricey to you lucky buggers in the USA, but that's actually a fair price here... :(

So I picked up the set this afternoon. Ratchet is Proto, extensions are Gray as well as 6 sockets, 2 Proto sockets and 6 Britool sockets. The ratchet turns perfectly smooth a 2 of the sockets and the extensions show some wear and chipped chrome but the rest show little to no signs of use. I do have a question about the British Whitworth. I measured one socket wtih my caliper and it is 2.074".That's 2 1/16 near as dammit but it's labeled as follows: 1 3/8 BS 1 1/4W. Why is that like that.

Well, you have several hours of reading in front of you!

You see, there are two different systems on each of those sockets (to make it even more difficult & convoluted than it already is) and they list both. That is:

1 3/8 British Standard (Fine) = 1 1/4 (British Standard) Whitworth

Just be happy you have no BA (British Association) sizes in there!

Start here.

BTW, how much did you end up paying?

The guy wouldn't take a dollar less than $165 his asking price. He lived in a sweet house right on lake ontario. When I tried to talk him down a bit he said he had over 300 hits on the ad and like 200 since last night. He was super excited about it. Then i told him about the link on here but he still wouldn't budge. But all in all I'm pleased with my purchase even though a few of the sockets are odd balls.

I work in a machine shop that does heavy stuff and my tool of choice for doing setups is a 3/4 impact but sometime you just need a ratchet. I think this will work nicely.
