ok guys my half inch gun is a ir2135 that i'm having a great run out of. but i'm starting to look for a 3/4" gun for truck lug nuts and the bigger stuff that the 1/2" wont budge. like the ocasianal crank bolt or axle nut on front wheel drives.
what are my options?
here in aus we dont get as many to pick from as you guys do over there.
my imediate thoughts were to buy an ir 2145 the bigger brother to my half inch gun or are there better options out there?

I have an old IR258 I think thats the number, anyways, bought it refurb'd on ebay about 4 years ago and won't look back, I think IR makes the best air tools, although there price tends to point me in other directions.

What about shipping one? Is that an arm and a leg as well? Maybe a used one with a new rebuild kit is the way to go.

I've had good luck with my IR 258, it's not the most powerful gun but at the price point and for occasional use, it always does the job.

if youre doing a lot of truck lugs, buy a 1" gun, you will kill a 3/4" gun quickly. they make 1" in pistol grip, but buy the long version, ir 285 is a popular gun, tried and proven over the years, a cp 797 is good, but a air hog, they do last about the same as a ir,but to rebuild them is more expensive.

Have you considered the NitroCat 1200K?, I bought one last year and it has done all that was asked of it. Northern Tool has a Sale on it and at this moment Summit Racing has it on Sale for $179.00 I think.

to buy in usa and have it shiped i think would be around $600 witch would be all well and good as long as i didnt need warranty.
i'll look into the other brands mentioned but like i said we dont have much choice in aus

I have had the IR 3/4 synthetic gun for 10 years. It will break stuff loose that a IR 261 wouldn't budge. It is light weight, and a bit thinner, so it will fit in a drawer.

The actual break away torque of the 2135TIMAX is 1100lb/ft not 780 that you're using to compare against the Snappy. The IR has 3 specs, break-away, max reverse, and realistic operating. Snap-on only quotes the unrealistic numbers, no true working torque ranges. What they call "recommended working torque" is actually max reverse, if it were true working torque you'd see a scale like IR representing power settings, not one number. Basically if you want apples to apples number its

MG725
Break Away 1190lb/ft (1613)
Max Reverse 810 lb/ft (1098)
Working Torque ?

2135TIMAX
Break Away 1100lb/ft (1491)
Max Reverse 780lb/ft (1058)
Working Torque 50-550lb/ft (68-746)

If you check the chart at the bottom of the MG725 release PDF you'll see this is exactly how they compare the two.

I own both and can confirm without a doubt they're very close power wise, too close to call basically. The MG725 is a bit more of an air hog though, is louder, and heavier. Both are still nice impacts.

My CP772H that was bought new in 1999 is still working as good as the day I bought it....at that time, I purchased 3/4" drive impact sockets, and try to avoid the use of adapters, extensions, and non-impact sockets...... Get big enough hoses and couplings to match the airwrench and compressor....

I have an Ir 261. It has it's own dedicated tank and 1/2 air hose. It has no trouble taking those stupid Honda crank bolts off as well as the BUDD wheels on my Boss's Motorhome. The lugs are the same as the older 2 piece BUDD 's on Semi trucks.

i have a chicago pneumatic; it is a monster
when you hit the trigger it spools up and hits like a sledgehammer
as much as i use it i could have gotten a HF or whatever cheap brand,
but the cp was an ebay steal

I have the plastic body IR and the stuff it take off with out batting an eye that my mg725 gave up on is impressive. I don't need it everyday, but when it comes out, I know the bolt is coming out and thats running on std 3/8" hose.

Our farm shop has 1" to 1 1/2" steel piping, Milton V series couplers, with 3/8" and 1/2" hose. Our Rol-AIR air compressor goes up to 135 psi. 1/2" air hose is a must for 3/4" air impact wrenches for maximum performance.

be cautious with a 1 inch for lug nuts, a lot of wheel manufacturers are starting to not coverd certain issues with wheels due to them being over torqued with a 1 inch impact.

If you are going to use this gun for lugs on trucks and trailers, you need a torque stick for 475 ft lbs that will eliminate the over torquing and stripped studs.

I personally dropped the use of a 1" gun for lugs, I am strictly 3/4" now, and my 258 is doing an awesome job at it.
