3/4 impact torque specs

So I've been looking Around for a 3/4 impact and am not all that impressed with the ft/lbs of torque found considering what the 2235/mg725 etc 1/2 impacts are producing these days. Am I missing something?

The extra 100-300 ft lbs a high end 3/4 makes a world of difference.

Remember working torque and "nut busting torque" are two rather different things...and remember that there is a at least some ******* going on with impact wrench torque ratings.

My Nitrocat gets a lot of work done for it's size but it's still necessary to break out the 3/4 gun when you get to the larger stuff.

There certainly are some shenanigans going on with the specs on newer guns, but as with automobile engines, the peak numbers don't tell the whole story.

One of my coworkers bought a 2235ti and thought he was going to zip out some M30 bolts torqued to about 1300 ftlbs. Nope, no amount of hammering at 120psi shop pressure would do it. My old 2141 groaned a second and twisted them out of the hole. The numbers don't do that gun justice, at all.

I have both the 2145 and the 2235 and while on paper they are close in reality they are not from my experience. The 2145 was with a 1/2" hose and the 2235 with the same hose but with a 3/8" whip end. In all honesty in not really impressed with the 2235 over the 2135. It feels the same and I do like the 2135.

I've got a Mac AW3400QA I'll sell ya' for $240.00. (AKA Aircat 1600TH). Seriously though, I think the 2145 is an excellent choice. I've been inside them, they did a very good job on that one IMO. Better than the 2141 by quite a ways.

I'd go with the IR.

We have a 1600TH as the shop gun. I don't know how long it's been in the shop but it's a tired old gun, worn out anvil and doesn't seem like it makes the power it should. I would hope a newer, well taken care of example would be better, but I know the IR is a known quantity.

3/4" are generally only publishing working torque numbers. These are toque ratings they'll achieve day in and day out with 5-10 second run times, so when it says 1200 or 1300 foot pounds that's realistic. By comparison the best 1/2" guns achieve about 800 foot pounds of max working torque. Bolt-Breakaway is mostly bogus 'look at what I can do under specific circumstances' testing and can be ignored.

Most 3/4" guns demand a bigger 1/2" hose as well. Bigger drive and more mass to the sockets makes a difference also.

Im looking at the.mac/facom to match my mac daddy, i have ir titanium thats 12-15 year old now and im happy with it ive actually worn the anvils edges rounded, and still use it as my backup/ van gun.

When I upgrade it will be a CP 7769. great powers, (1440ftlbs) and good price $473 amazon. I have always has good luck with CP products, IR as well.

It is true a 3/4" "hits Harder" despite its specs...I've used my dads IR 251 and its impressive. On paper it doesn't seem as stout as some of the big guns of today...but in your hand, it feels & works like it hits harder.
