3/4" impacts....Snap On rebuild?

I have a well-used Snap On MG1200, and I am debating on sending it back to be rebuilt through Snap ON ($275) vs ordering a generic rebuild kit online ($77). For those who have sent an impact back for rebuilding, is it just an internal rebuild or do they also refinish the case/externals? Anyone rebuilt their own with a kit? If so, how does it compare with new?

As far as a Snap On rebuild goes, I am also curious if its worth spending $275 when you can buy a new HF Earthquake XT 3/4" composite impact for $250...or even spend $300 and simply get a Milwaukee 18v 3/4" (I have plenty of batteries).

It won't see a lot of use, but nice to have when working on stubborn farm stuff.

I would imagine a rebuild is just a rebuild and not a refurbishment/restoration.

Is the OEM kit available cheaper than the $275 rebuild fee? What's included?

I'd be more inclined to do it myself with OEM parts.

First I would tear it apart and see if it needs new parts. A lot of times you can just clean everything up, lube it up and put it back together.

How complicated/involved is it to tear one apart/rebuild?

It's not bad. 30-45 minutes. I rebuild mine when they get weak.

Yup, very easy. Looks like the parts come out the back on that one. Remove the fasteners and hold it together, turn it so the backplate is against the table and lift up on the housing. Might need some gentle taps from a deadblow but usually less is more.

The 18v Milwaukee is a point to ponder because of the ability to use in the field away from a compressor.

May end up pulling it apart myself....in the meantime, snagged this yesterday with a 5ah battery for $140.
