Anyone notice the resemblence in these two ratchet heads or is it just me? One is a new armstrong 3/4 ratchet and the other is a craftsman 3/4 ratchet. The handles are different and the craftsman is a quick release and armstrong isn't but the forward, reverse lever looks the same. I just wonder if there the same ratchet internally or is the armstrong better?

Armstrong is part of the Danaher Tool Group so, the similarity is not a coincidence!
Quote: "In December 1994, after 105 years of private ownership by the Armstrong family, the company was acquired by the Danaher Corporation. Danaher's family of brands includes Allen and K-D Hand Tools, Allen Hex Keys, Holo-Krome Fasteners, Jacobs Chucks, Matco Hand Tools, and JS Technology Torque Tools, among others. The Danaher (LINK here) Commitment to continuous improvement will ensure the strict adherence to the high standards of quality, delivery and cost upon which Armstrong was founded."

the shape of the pocket that holds the gear and pawl is based on ease of manufacture. once the patent ran out everybody was free to copy its basic design

it is really no suprise that many of the ratchets look the same in the basic design

I was just curious because there both owned my Danaher corporation. I plan on buying a good 3/4 ratchet and just trying to find the best option for the best price, since I won't use it everyday just occasionally. Matco, Allen, K-D, Craftsman, and the Armstrong ratchet heads look to be the same, The craftsman looks to be the cheapest but are they all they same internal as far as strength goes?

For the amount you will probably use it, the craftsman will do just fine. A couple of guys I work with have that ratchet and it gets the job done just fine.

if the Cman is the cheapest that is the way I would go
it will be good enough for the casual user
