Now leaning toward epoxy. My garage floor is 20+ years old, has some kind of **** paint on it, is stained in areas with battery acid and/or oil, and is generally pretty rough (though not cracked).

I'm getting a $3.75/foot price for a grind, epoxy, flake to rejection, clearcoat, and polyurethane on top of that. Another guy is at $3.50 plus some kind of minor fee that takes it to more like $3.60. Both the above include minor fixes of some chipping at the edge of the entry.

Sounds pretty good to me, and it's a job I don't want to tackle myself.

Sound competitive?

PS. If anyone in Austin wants to bid this, I'd be happy to have you out.

Flake to rejection is a beautiful floor! It is expensive though. We have a rep in Austin if you want to PM your number I will have him quote it for you.

Anywhere between $3.50-4.00 is competitive enough.
To get clearcoat AND polyurethane, might bring up some questions tho.
Why isn't the clearcoat that he is using good enough?
Ask about warranty, repairs if necessary, & maybe some reference of other recent local projects that you might see firsthand.
Referrals are jobs I like best!

Grind, clean, primer, colorcoat, flakes, shear off excess, clean-up, topcoat.
Again, not sure why 'clearcoat' & then 'polyurethane'.
Might wanna clarify.

Sounds like a fair quote for a job that size and with that many steps involved. The complete coverage of flakes is adding a fair amount to the quote one would assume.

They use Arizona Polymer materials. Anyone have anything good, bad or indifferent to say about that stuff?

Also getting a quote from the local Epoxy Coat guy.

I just had Iron Drive do my floor. I believe Shannon has a new franchise in Houston. Check out the thread I just posted about my experience with Iron Drive. PM Shannon or myself if you have any questions.

Sounds fair for installers in this area. We used Arizona Polymer in the past but have switched to something I feel is more durable. Their top-coat is a 53% solids polyurethane, POLY100. We use a 73% solids Polyurea, which is a new hybrid polyurethane, that dries in 2 hours and you can drive on in 12 hours.

I live in Austin and you can visit my website www.protechresurfacing.com

I'd be more than happy to come take a look.

We also now install metallic epoxy if you want something more than chips.
