3/8 air hose / tool coupler styles

Ladies and Gentleman, i recently purchased a 3/4 impact wrench and am in the process of buying 1/2” air hose and would like toget some 3/8 air couplers. I see several styles similar to the 1/4 styles that i have and have seen before

My question is what is the most popular style 3/8 air couple style

Milton style g?
Milton style h?
Milton style p?

These are all available at my local napa. Any advice or thoughts wpuld be appreciated. I would like to go for the most popular style or the one that is going to be available in the future and at the most number of stores well you get the point. Thank for your help in advance

I use H mainly cause I started with it from a big box of the stuff from a sale and it would be a pain to change so much out. They come in 1/4-3/8-1/2 thread both M/F on couplers and plugs. If I was starting over would go to the new V though if I could, they may be easier to connect.

Milton V is a 1/4" size, not 3/8", though the larger bore makes it supposedly flow like a 3/8".

I use Milton P style myself for my 3/8" connections. Specifically these:

But I can't say that one style is better or more common than another. I just don't know.

I believe that's false, milton sells their V couplers in 3/8" NPT as well as 1/4", according to their website.

I use 1/4" myself, but I've seen 3/8" sold.

I think there is confusion between the thread size and the sizes used to describe the coupler. I would think the smallest restriction would be the limiting factor. I looked up a few couplers quickly and found the cfm rating can double from say a 1/4 i/m coupler to a 3/8 p style coupler. The v style flow more than my I/m couplers but only provide a little more than half the air volume of say the p coupler. I am planning on running a 3/4 impact that needs a large volume of air to work at peak performance

My two cents, swap everything to 1/2" couplers and be done with it. 3/8" are somewhat odd to find in comparison to 1/4" and 1/2". Also keep it simple with one coupler in the shop. I got the idea to switch to 3/8" and wound up having to order them as nobody stocks them.

I am not sure what the flow of a P is, havnt used them, The H is 74. It would be interesting to know how they rate them.
My understanding is that the flow rate spec is supposed to be at a 10 PSI pressure drop across the device.

I figured someone would know. I see the H is rated the same no matter what the thread size as they come in all 3 from 1/4 to 1/2. They were 74, the same as the V. The main thing is I really try to screw everything except for one at the business end. If a guy is using a hydrant system this means 2 at least, ,,,, so we worry about the efficiency then add extra,,, ha.... But a heavy 3/4 gun is probably in the 35 or 40 range depending on pressure used, they don't add a lot of insult to it and almost none on any tools smaller than that. I happened to start with H and have a lot invested in it or would change for ease of connection. I went with it as at the time was portable with 1/2 hoses and some bigger tools and use one fitting for everything. Didn't have a big and small.
I do know a lot of mechanics never give this kind of **** a worry and work a whole career with common auto type A and manage just fine. I don't have a clue about the ratings on that smaller stuff, I tend to believe its in the 35-40 or so and well adequate for 1/2 class guns.
I have ran some drop tests, number one thing that perk it up was going from 50 ft of 3/8 hose to 15.

I think it may have been true at one time, because I was under the same impression, but Milton does now show V styles in 3/8".

The V is a high flow 1/4" body size. All couplers are rated by body size and are available with pipe threads, or hose barbs, other than the nominal body size. These different thread or hose sizes don't change the size of the actual coupler connection.

I understand your point, but the post to which I replied was referring to pipe thread sizes. I recall that at one time the V style was only offered with 1/4" pipe threads (male and female), but now is offered with both 1/4 and 3/8. Or it may be that Northern Tool only stocked them in 1/4".

I like Dixon for value, Milton for what I percieve to be a slight edge on quality. I've had good luck with both

I don't understand why you are buying fittings that flow at 70+ CFM? What air tools are you using that are running 70 CFM? What am I missing here? 70 CFM is a tool using 17 hp worth of air.

Prevost Hi Flow safety coupler is the best coupler/fitting design in my opinion.
