3/8 air impact with good trigger control?

I have 3/8 Gison (taiwan) gun and while it has decent power it is extremely loud and the trigger is basically on/off switch, sending bolts and sockets flying... and for this reason it's basically useless for assembly work.

So I am looking for air 3/8 impact and this is what I want in order of relevance.
1) Trigger control
2) Quiet
3) Power
4) Ergonomics

From searching G.J It seems the Ingersoll Rand 2115QTiMAX fits the description??

IR 2115QTIMAX is your winner here. There's other good impacts out there too but many don't score as highly in ALL the areas you mentioned. The IR is at or very near the top in trigger control. It's one of the main reasons I use IR impacts exclusively. I hate an impact with an on/off switch for a trigger and have traded off many impacts that were like this.

My IR 2115TIMAX is featherable enough to tease in the most delicate valvebody bolt and powerfull enough to brutalize a siezed bolt in tight quarters.

I have the 2135ti quiet version. I love the variable trigger control. It is relativley quiet.

I dont remember the model numbers but i do have both the 3/8 and 1/2 version.

2135. The Quiet versions are VERY nice, wish I would have opted for it. My 2135 is louder than my 2235Quiet. LOL

I've used that gun without the quiet function and it is a really nice little gun. Ingersol Rand really has their designs down pat with their impacts.

I'm extremely happy with my 2235timax and I think I spend around $290 on it when it first came out. It has earned it's keep and then some! Don't think twice, just grab and go.

Regarding the feathering, every IR gun I've used, I can feather the trigger so slow the bit will spin but the impact won't function. This is a good feature for threading bolts. takes practice on some guns though.

Not sure how common Japanese tools are in Iceland but that's twice the price of the top of the line IR in the US.

I have both 2135timax 2115timax and 4 other max tools for over 4-5 yrs and I have to say all of my IR stuff runs circles around the other air tools I have used but a select few specialty items (air hammers, grinders, drills) you can't go wrong with IR the control, weight, toughness and torque are all there

When I posted this I was gathering items for one shipment from JBtoolsales in the states. Like a kid in a candy store!

The easiest way for me to drive down shipping cost on smaller tools is to gather 20-40lb in one priority mail shipment. This costs around $100 ,give or take, but shipping a single 3/8 impact is around $50.

Since I have never done business with JB. before and I am using Priority mail I started to question the wisdom of putting too many dollars into one box for overseas shipment. So I skipped the IR. If all goes well I will order the IR next time around.

Priority mail usually gets here in less than 2 weeks BTW.

Thanks for the input. I see the same thing in my work environment, the IR guns are durable and overall nice tools.

Since you got the Hammerhead, how durable are they?
Used few times a week, could I expect several years of trouble free operation?

I bought it slightly used and had trouble at first with the head/gear box as the threaded retainer plate came loose. They sold it cause they couldn't figure out how to repair it

other than that it's been great but I think that was just a fluke and it has lasted many year since my fix ...if you have the 2115 and a hammerhead access is awesome

It's great for doing Brakes, Light suspension, Stuck alternators, diff service, trans pans, I've even done a few water pumps without have to remove the radiator big time saver

Although pricey, I really liked Snap-on's anvil brake feature on their impact wrenches, I find that feature very useful when paired with a swivel impact socket. I keep slinging bolts and lug nuts with my 1/2" IR2135 doing suspension works but rarely ever do that with my 3/8" MG325 in engine bays.

The only thing I don't like about my MG325 is the power selector (problem can be solved with a $2 Torx L-key).

Power selector? Its full bore or nothing for me! I own both the MG325 and the IR2115. I will give my (slight) nod to the MG325. Its awesome. The 1/2 version is a POS but thats another topic.

Yeah, my gun is stuck at full power too, but every once in awhile I'd like to run 10mm bolts in without breaking them

I also find the tactile feel of MG325's trigger a lot like mechanical keyboards, whereas the IR feels like spongy, loose laptop keyboards.... If that makes any sense.

I use a cordless for 12mm and under bolt heads for tightening, and the MG325 for 14mm and up. That way I don't break anything. The MG325 is a tighter tool, no doubt about it.

The only thing I don't like about my MG325 is the power selector (problem can be solved with a $2 Torx L-key).

I like the idea of the anvil break and I just 3/8 drive in general so why not use garage journal as an excuse to buy another snappy tool

The forward/reverse switch also has a power regulator built in that is impossible to turn by fingers.

You will need a T25 or T30 to turn the selector. Not really a big deal, everybody leaves it at full bore.
