I have way more 3/8" galv. cable than I know what to do with.

I'm looking for a cost effective way to swage eyelets/ends/stops that are clean and look factory.

I think 3 or 4 crimped ferrels kinda look like ****.

Any ideas?

You could do a flemish eye and then use one crimp, I guess it depends on what exactly you are making these ends for.

Stouty,

I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with it all.

I have about 4 pallets of wire rope I can bring home if I care to.

Thought it might be a nice little side business, as the raw materials would be free.

At the hardware store I worked at, we used to cheat by using the clamp part of a plumbing flange tool to crimp sleeves. It had bolts instead of wing nuts. Tighten both ends evenly. The owner was too cheap to buy us a swaging press.

This takes longer, and you need to be careful not to snap the bolts.

Maybe fit something to, or modify a bolt cutter?
I mention this, because I've used one for the ends on my garage door and some overhead wire suspension cables.
Professional looking no, but good enough for me.

Im a bit foggy on what you want, a different hardware option or a better way to swag fittings?

But if you are swagging big 3/8" cable definitely look into the hydraulic tools. The standard bolt cutter style is terrible for anything over 1/8" IMO.

Check these guys out, seem to sell nicer low priced tools in this category.

Good luck. What kind of side business are you thinking? Cable for decks/railings?

I'd like to know that any connection I make hits the same rating of the cable.
Think rigging for lifting, pulling with a winch/come along, or tensioning for a cable rail.

What you need is a riggers vise and put the eyes in the right way. You'll need some practice. I've watched a bunch of it done but like most everything else the guys that are good at it make it look easy. I don't see much demand for 3/8 slings and chokers. For anything in that capacity range nylon slings or tow chains are cheap. Now if you had 4 pallets of inch or inch and a quarter cable you could probably sell any farmer or half ton dirt contractor a pair or 25 footers. Also selling home made lifting equipment might get you in legal trouble or have bad liability issues. Just my .02
