If you are only wanting to buy one set i'd get the deep sockets. I use mine probably 60% of the time. My current 3/8'' impacts were on promo from SO. Use them in combination with the IR2115 and the Hammerhead.

Get both. Especially if you are doing mechanical work like cars. A shorter socket reduces the chance of stripping and slips. Many times you need a deep to clear a bolt. I want to get a mid-depth set son.I also prefer 6-point sockets whenever possible.

Both I use the deep more but you will need both. If this is a question as to which to get first get deep first. But I doubt you can only use one style

I am only using them to tear down and reassemble my motorcycle. Not to much car work. Try to see if I should get the deep or the standard. Only need metric, also trying to decide if I need 6-19 or just 10-19.

Deep. If you can fit a gun in there in the first place, the extra inch or so wont hurt...

Does not compute.

I just picked up A fault in the AE-35 unit. :)

Seriously, you're going to eventually want to get both deep and shallow sockets *and* you'll also want inch and metric sets in all the sizes available.

It's far better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them... nothing kills productivity more then having to make a trip to the store to pick up what you should realistically have on hand anyway.

I dont know if your brand specific, but look at Grey Pneumatic you can get a set of both shallow and deep for a reasonable price.

I would get deep and shallow, as more then likely you will instances were you can not use on or the other.

I can imagine no reason to ever need impacts on newer motorcycles except perhaps crank fasteners. In those rare cases where you may do that on your own bike just use a chrome socket or buy a single impact. It may be a different story if you worked in a motorcycle shop. Certainly you wont need both deep and shallow and definately will be 100% perfectly served with inexpensive import sets.

If its only for a 1 time project just use chrome. No sense in buying an entire set of impacts that really wont be used.

With your specific job, I would get the deep AND short swivels. On the swivels, I would "almost" suggest getting the 1/4" drive, but most sets only go up to a 14mm. Grey Pneumatics are great sockets for the money.

I like to tinker with my motorcycles. I am always doing sometime to anyone of them. And I will most likely used them when working around the house when with the hammer drill at times.

seems like all the suggestion point to deep socket would be the route to go. Thanks as impact sockets are something I do not used to often.

If you're just using them occasionally and only on motorcycles, I'd personally just use standard chrome sockets.

I know Genius Tools sells a chrome molybdenum 7-22mm set of short and deep for around $100 USD. Chadster1 is a Snap-on dealer and he sells Genius impact sockets sometimes and said he's had no issues with them. Not sure if that is out of your price range.

I went with a chicago pneumatic deep socket set that goes form 7-19mm. Not to expensive for a chrome moly set. I got it on sale on amazon for 27 dollars regularly $31. Made in Taiwan.
