What I've seen in the past with Cornwell is any "master set" they have is very high priced. The distributor saves the day & sells it for a lot less.

Is this the set you saw? Yes, the list price on these is expensive. Whether it's worth it or not is up to the buyer I guess. However, I have seen these sets go for less than $150 new on Ebay which probably isn't bad for a truck brand. You can always find cheaper. The key is to find better cheaper. Who pays retail for tools? Used is the way to go.

That's rediculous. I could see like 2-300 for that set, but almost 700?!

You can get a similar set from SK for probably less than 200

Snap On has a promotion where you buy a deep 1/4" set and get the shallow set free (10-19mm). I bet some folks got the two and resold them.

I saw the ad today. it says suggested list is $688. Then it says to see your distributor for special pricing. They gave it an outrageous list price to make you feel like you got a smoking deal.

hookers do the opposite. They quote you a price, then when you get to the hotel, they ask for more money. It's called upselling and it's really annoying.

The set in question sells for about 380.00 dollars. Comparing it to Craftsman is funny, like real funny. It's no more expensive than Snap-on or Matco,USA sets.

Okay... I get how the ratchet comparison is funny, but the sockets??? Craftsman gets the job done and there is money left over. ALL SOCKETS WILL BREAK. Spending more $$$$ on sockets just pushes one deeper into denial...

I would not pay that high price for that cornwell set or snap on ect. But they are a higher quality tool than craftsman. My cornwell sockets are like chrome plated impact sockets!! They are very tough.

I posted a new thread (The Influence of This Forum!) It explains my tool choices, and the positive influences of this forum.

I think Craftsman sockets are fine, but the Cornwell's are better. I have had instances, where a CM socket won't bite on a rounded fastener, and the Cornwell takes it right off! The fit on the extensions,ratchets,etc...is also better. Besides detents, Cornwell sockets have a hole for the ball detent, nice when the socket doesn't fall off a long extension.

It's not all about strength, fit and function are worth something!

Isn't that Silver Eagle, the second tier stuff? That is not an apples to apples comparison if it's Asian.

I was just throwing it out there. The poster that I quoted said they were about the same price as Matco. Silver Eagle is Matco. As of this time there are no exact Matco branded sets. We offer them in the Matco Silver Eagle line.
