i am looking for some 3/8 drive hex or allen bit sockets that are impact rated. i have been using my chrome stuff and not had any real issues except they tear up the hog ring on my impact. i found this proto set for about 50 on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001VY0FNG/?tag=atomicindus08-20 do you guys have any other suggestions? should i just keep a stock of hog rings/o rings?

I have that exact proto set. Not many sizes, but the ones you so get are A++

I use Bondhus prohold bits in Armstrong impact sockets that I picked up cheap from Cripe Distributing. They work really well.

Snap-on gold torx sockets work very nice. The torx bite into the corners. I swear these are better than hex, especially on ones that are already jacked up a bit.
