3/8 drive sets

I had all SK ratchets and sockets years ago. A couple of big moves and a divorce or two changes things.

I am a wreck and can't do much anymore thus I am downsizing and going to pass a lot of stuff onto my stepson.

I like all of you seem to have this fetish for tools...and in an effort to set the boy up I am thinking about buying a complete 3/8 set, deep and shallow for myself to round out my downsized box enabling me to give him a more complete set.

I liked my SK's years ago and it appears that the two best choices i have is between Tekton and SK, the green box is about 2x the price but still reasonable. For the few times I will use these I would like to have a comfortable tool in my hand.

Convince me I need or don't need the SK set...Y'all can leave the truck tools out of the discussion.

SK is domestic. If it were me and I could afford it, the home team gets the nod. I will say, however, that I think Tekton ratchets feel great in the hand. I'm not sure if SK is offering their 90 tooth ratchets in the socket sets yet. That's a nice ratchet too but I believe the sets are all roundhead ratchets. And, frankly, I like the feel of the Tekton better than the roundhead or the LP90.

I think it comes down to how you value your money and where you want to spend it. Tekton is an American company that has a lot of manufacturing in Taiwan. SK is an American company that manufactures in the US, and the prices of the two reflect their positions.

Personally, as a solely DIY enthusiast, my tools lately have migrated to Tekton. Ratchets, sockets, wrenches, and a few other various items have entered my box and I cannot say a bad thing about them. For a complete 3/8 set you will be hard pressed to find the same quality for less money. Below is a set I recently got, I was only after the sockets (already had ratchets, breaker bar, and extensions) but I got it as a gift and was not going to turn away good tools. You can pick this up for $125, 1/4-1 and 6-24 shallow and deep 6 point

Tekton is hard to beat - they do make alot of nice stuff.
But S-K has always been my go-to for sockets and such. The 45170 ratchet might not be the lightest or the most teeth but after over 40 years of use I still have my original ratchet.
Plus if you want more teeth you can upgrade to a FACOM era TUFF 1, or slap a DT90 kit in an old rat and get 90 effective teeth. There's the roto-head, and they made a 3/8" in a 1/4" body rat for tight work.

You can't go wrong with S-K.

I have not every used S-K tools so I can't say anything about them, but I have a number of Tekton tools and have been satisfied with all but one. I had an old Tekton ratchet that was sub par, but they don't sell those anymore and their new ones are quite nice. Add their lower price and their 10% rebate everyday and it makes anything else a hard sell to me.
