Hey guys I need a quality 3/8ths torque wrench doesn't need to be crazy expensive I have my eye on the newest snap on digital. But that's not going to happen right now I need to to a head gasket and some timing belt work. So I guess what are some good reasonable priced torque wrenchs. If they were good for 10 Ft lbs that would be grear. P.s. I don't want one from harbor frieght

I have a snapon dual beam wrench that is very nice; it is older and was not calibrated....resulted in a sheared bolt and significant swearing
And I bought a tech angle on special; makes torque plus angle bolts( head bolts normally) a breeze
I would look at precision instruments from tool topia for a cheaper way

That low torque I use a beam torque wrench.

There's lot's of good torque wrenches nowadays there's no real middle ground, you either got the cheap or the expensive (which includes the ridiculously expensive). $75-100 bucks will net you an awesome torque wrench only difference will be country of origin (us on higher end, imported on lower end). Digital but cheap you're looking at craftsman or eastwood, I'm not sure if they're made by the same manufacturer in china. I think the eastwood is the same. You could get one of the digital torque adapters at harbor freight but would be a complete p.i.t.a. to use for what you're doing.

Husky USA at Home Depot. Same torque wrench Matco sells at a fraction of the cost.

Husky: $74.97

Matco: $292.50

I have the 3/8" & 1/2" and they are both great. Here is the 1/2" next to my buddy's Matco.

I've taken to CDI Torque wrenches. Affordable quality.

ETA: 10ft lbs is low for a 3/8" drive. That is almost lowest range of my 3/8" tw. Remember that you want to work in the middle of a torque wrenches range for accuracy. The high and low ends can have greater error.

Perhaps a beam style or drop to a 1/4"..??? 10ft lbs is light.

I had a Husky 3/8" given to me as a gift years ago... it's in the trash now.

I bought a used Snappy off a Jeep forum and had it calibrated by the truck guy. Really like that one.

If you don't have a truck guy I second the recommendation for CDI or PI. Same quality as Snappy but without the price tag.

Don't buy the digital unless you can afford the recalibration. It's 150 through the truck.

Buy an older click type snap on and spend 40 to have it redone.

Most torque wrenches are only guaranteed to be accurate from 20% of the full scale to the full scale. So if you need to get down as low as 10 ft/lbs a wrench that tops out at 50 ft/lbs or 600 in/lbs is required. Depending on what the torque specs are on your head bolts you may need two wrenches. I just did some head bolts that were 36 ft/lbs and then 90 degrees, so in an instance like that you could get by with a single wrench like this:

I need one too because the torque wrench I bought recently at the Harbor Freight Tent sale did not work period. Took it back, and got a refund.

That would be the old model. The recent USA ones came out last year, and are the exact wrenches sold by Armstrong, Gearwrench and Matco.
