3/8 impact

Hi looking at getting a new 3/8 impact gun. I'm looking at either the IR 2115timax or the air cat 1355xl. I use it as a heavy duty mechanic so it will get a **** kicking. I have the IR2135qimax and it's held up great so far.

What is the GJ recommendation?

If you have and like the 2135 then I would stick with the IR it's exactly the same so it will feel very familiar

It's a tough little gun with a lot of power. I've had my for a year now still works and looks like I bought it yesterday.

IR impacts are easy to rebuild if you ever manage to wear one out.. Aircat, not so much.

They're both great impacts though.

If for HD work then I would go with the nitrocat 1355xl for the raw power it has over the 2115timax, if your air supply is dirty then I suggest you take out the filter / muffler out of the nitrocat as it will clog up overtime making you think the impact took a dump.

I just got the ir 2115 and used it last weekend on a front end project. I'm very happy with its performance.

You can get soft parts (vanes, seals, etc.), but hard parts like anvils and cylinders aren't as easy to get for an Aircat.

It's almost a moot point though, by the time you wear either gun out you'll most likely want to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

Get the IR since you already have one. I have a 2115Ti and its good. Also have a snapon MG325 and its got some serious miles on it with no sign of slowing down.

I had the aircat, its a nice gun, BUT, the trigger *****. The thing has more power then ANY 3/8 I've ever used, bar none. Blows IR, Matco, Snappy out of the water. The Mac one IS an aircat (or used to be at least) I have two 1/2 Aircat impacts, a 1200K (awesome gun) and a 1250k (new model, even more power and just as awesome. )
The down fall to 3/8 Aircat impacts is that terrible trigger. First, understand that lil 3/8 has more nuts than almost any other 3/8" gun. The trigger is HARD, its almost a "All or nothing" situation. It is very hard to "feather" the trigger for small/light bolts, and it will fling sockets becuase of it. It's really fast too. I have a Snap On MG325, not because I Love Snappy stuff, but becuase it had a nice, controllable trigger. That is my only complaint with the Aircat guns, I have two 1/2 drive Aircats, and a 1/2 Snap-on MG725. The 1/2 Snap on gun never gets used. It is a spare/third/loaner gun. It's heavier, louder and not as powerful.

I've had the aircat 3/8 for about 8 years and I've beat it pretty hard. It has a lot of balls for a small gun. I had some cheap impact sockets when I first got it, they didn't last long...

I'd go with a IR 3/8 or one of the 1/2" or even 3/8 compact units. I have a MG325, and while it is a comfortable, powerful unit, it is LOUD and I'm a bit weary if it ever has problems. I got it on a very good sale though, otherwise I would have gone with and IR or one of the compact guns.

I agree with most here, go with the IR. I have the 2115, 2135 and the 2145. I am very happy with all three, I too am a heavy duty mechanic and use them on just about a daily basis. Have had them for 3 years now. Never tried the aircat 3/8 but the 2115 out power most of the other 1/2 guns here at my shop.

I guess all those other 1/2 guns are probably the $20 HF with 250 ft-lb, the ir 2115 is rated at 300 ft-lb max torque

lol I was thinking the same thing. I call BS on the 3/8 out doing other 1/2 impacts.

And all i have is IR air tools. But there was this one time the 2115timax would not budge lugs on a F250. But, a MG325 loaner did. Can you imagine the power of the MG725 since the little brother beat out the Thor of all impact guns... holy ****.

The MG325 kinda reminds me of kart racing engine. Very high output for a short period of time (hope not). And yes it will rip lug nuts off, I think half of it's power is just from the high decibel output. Sadly it is almost to the point of where I don't like to use it unless I have to.

I crack lugs all the time with the 2115 it always surprises me. We have had a few older 1/2 impacts that have not been able to do what the 2115 max has done

My mg325 is an animal, it will snap bolts or pull threads whichever comes first on 1/4 and 5/16 bolts in seconds, it took me a while to learn how to use it without causing damage

My mg725 will snap bolts or pull threads on 3/8 and 7/16 bolts also

Well I think I am going to go with the IR nothing but good luck with all my other IR air tools and they get bounced and bashed in a service truck work in -40°C. Not that I like to work in it tho haha

IR is hard to beat, with the exception of my 3/8 and 1/4 air ratchet the rest is IR.
