Recently got a 3/8" impact and now looking into a few of Sunex's 3/8" metric and SAE impact sets. Was going to get the metric 3329 and SAE 3325 master sets. Metric is 8-22mm and SAE 5/16 - 1", but now wondering if I'd be better served with Sunex's 3342 set. the 3342 only goes to 19mm and 3/4" in both shallow and deep sockets BUT is about half the cost of purchasing the seperate metric and SAE master sets. Not sure if it's worth the extra $$ for the few larger socket sizes in the master sets when I already have those sizes covered in my 1/2" impact sets. Only reason I can think of is a situtation where space won't allow 1/2" impact gun and socket. :dunno:

Get the 3342 and the low profile step up adapters, these things are super handy to have anyway, I use them mostly with my plastic shielded 1/2" drive lug nut sockets on a 3/8" gun

I cut my 3/8 sockets off at 19mm and 3/4. I don't have any reason to go higher and I'm not obsessed with having every size that's out there.

Thanks for the replies. Think I will save some $$ for other stuff and get the 3342 set and the low profile step-up adapters as suggested. With the money saved going this route I'm temped to get the metric mid depth set (8-22mm), but don't know if it's practical to have shallow, mid's and deep sockets for the home DIY'er.

I got the SO deep set of 5/16-1" and 8-24mm 16 years ago and if I were to do it all over again I would still go this route. I don't know if you use it everyday but if you do and have a good 3/8" impact it is very handy. My shallows only go to 3/4-19. I use the hell out of the 3/8 impacts. Just depends on what you work on.

Is Grey Pneumatic the only folks who make these type of adapters? My internet search is only turning up the GP adapter set

Good points. Currently all I work on is my 95 Dodge 4x4 diesel and a 01 Elantra, occasionally my mother in laws 96 Accent. Was just out looking at my chrome sockets and by the looks of wear 10-15mm see the most use, the 17 and 19mm look like they have been used a few times. Anything in my 3/8" SAE set above 9/16 has seen little use. My wife wants to get a newer small SUV (most likely of some asain flavor) in the next year or two so not sure what future socket size needs will be.

I have the full Napa/Sunex inch & metric sets in deep and metric shallow. I had bought a Craftsman 1/4 to 3/4 shallow set but am filling it out with the Sunex. I use the larger sockets all the time, especially 15/16. I work on trucks & loader's, FWIW.
