matco pinless if you can afford it, and then you'll never need to buy any again

I have snap-on i believe a 10 piece set. Pricey but worth it because i use them everyday and beat on them.

Would you be using them often?

HF is your friend.

i have a few 1/2" dr MM swivel impacts that have held up under some abnormal abuse.

+1 on the HF metric set. most of the time I abuse them 1/2 gun with 3/8 adapter because I dont care. they have been holding up fairly well after 4 years.I later on bought the Snap On metric+standard set when I could afford them, they are being used "properly" but not regularly.

My local snap on guy has a set on special for this month around 272 for a set of Metric in the common sizes. I believe it was a 7 piece set and not a full set, but it came with around 5 fractional impact swivel sockets as well in the common automotive sizes. The fractional set that is included is a buy one get the other set free type of deal and boxed together.

If I didn't already have a full set of the SO metric pieces, this would be a good buy, but I don't ever find myself using the fractional sizes anymore for swivel impacts. I have the older ones that are shorter with the crimped ring around the pin.

If you're occasionally using them, I'd say go with the harbor freight ones at 10 times less the price of the SO ones. When they're on sale, you can get them for about 28 bucks a set or even less if you have a coupon to combine. These look decent enough for occasional use and they have a decent in-store warranty.

I use the Sunnex... No problems over here and they are pretty cheap (under $100).

I got the HF 3/8 metric swivel set for $20. Can't beat $20 for a set. I only use it occasionally, but so far no problem

I bought the 3/8" HF set after reading reviews like this in hopes of saving some money. The very first time I used the 16mm socket on my MG325, it exploded into about 5 pieces and took a little chunk out of my wrist. I threw the rest of the set in the trash and bought the Snap-On set, which I love. I bought the 1/2" Matco set used on here and those are great too.

Even if you're not a pro and will only be using the HF swivel sockets occasionally, be very careful. To me, saving a couple hundred bucks wasn't worth the risk.

Be careful. When these let go the swivel half may fly away and do damage. I watched one fly around.a wheel well before hitting a guy in the cheek right below his eye.

Mine are all SK or snap on depending on the set that I pieced together on ebay. Imported is fine but maybe consider Sunex or GP

You can't expect a $20 HF set to have the same performance as a $300 SO set. I bought mine set as a temperally stop gap until I find a cheap used SO set. So far the HF is holding up with the occasional use.

Grey Pneumatic or Sunex will provide years of hard daily use without the tool truck price.
They do have fat collars and are a pinned design but, they will do the job repeatedly without breaking the bank. Shop around for the best price.

I love me some snappy, but I've had to warranty my 13mm 3 times in the last yr and a 18mm, and 15mm once. It's great that I'm able to warranty but I feel as if I would have had better luck w/ matco's from seeing what other tech's are rocking. Just my 2 cents…

on the other side I have had to warranty 18mm matco many times so it goes both ways. I have snap ons and matcos so I rag them all out. I also have some sunex and GP and for the $ that is why I am recommending them. you can buy replacements 5 years from now and still be crazy money ahead if you can not get them warrantied for some reason.

I wouldn't expect the same performance, but there's a difference between lower performance and dangerous. My stuff gets used in a pro environment, but that doesn't matter when the socket blew up on it's first use. It could have been a fluke, but I wasn't willing to find out.

Out of my Snap-On set (3/8") and Matco set (1/2"), so far the only one I've had to warranty is the 14mm Matco socket because the socket itself split. There are a few in that set that I'd like to warranty because of slop in the joint, but I don't have a Matco dealer. So far, the Snap-On's have held up great.

Since this style socket takes such a beating, I'd choose whichever brand is easier for the individual to warranty.

I also vote grey pneumatic. I have their swivel sockets and a ton of their other stuff. It all has worked very well under hard pro use. I just ordered the 3/8 metric swivels yesterday on how well the 1/2 ones have served me. I also ordered the ir 2115 to go with em.

With you on this one. Majority of my impact sockets now are GP...but the price difference between GP and SK swivels arent that far off!

Will have to see how they compare when they arrive.

what happened to them, broke or wore out, not gripping bolt properly?

they haven't split but worn out at the joint, when you hold the base and swivel the socket side I'll only get about 180 degree's of rotation at most. I think that sound right?

Since no one has, I'll mention that the Matco and Craftsman pinless sets are from the same manufacturer, but the Cmans are much cheaper at about $200 a set.

With the HF sets, there is no 18mm in the set and 18mm is left out most of the time in the cheap sets.Sometimes 15mm is out of the set too.Same with IR sets too,no 18mm either.

GP set 10-19mm. Excellent tool, great price. I would never pay the truck brand price for swivels, they are ridiculously high! lol. GP has held up very well under very regular use.
