I'm looking for a 3/8" drive extension that reduces to 1/4" drive. Basically, a long 3/8 to 1/4 adapter.

Mac has a 1/2" drive set that reduces to 3/8". I've searched for a while, and can't find such a device.

Does anyone know if they exist?

Thanks.

I expect that Apex makes an impact extension like this. I'm fairly certain you wouldn't want to pay what they are asking.

the problem wdfith this idea is that 1/4 sockets arn't designed for the torque that a 3/8 ratchet and/or impact will deliver. thats most likely why you can't find one. the tool companys arn't gonna make a tool they know will break sockets all the time which will cause their warrentys to rise.

They make an extension adapter in 12 inch and 36 inch, but they're 1/2'' drive down to 3/8'' drive. They do exist, but not in the drive sizes you want.

Clearance may be an issue. I'm an overhead door service tech, and I work off of ladders and scissor lifts a lot, so having as few tools as possible to get the most work done without running back to the truck is a must.

I suppose the adapter method is best. I need to tighten sprockets with small allen screws (hex bit sockets) and regular nuts and bolts without having a tool belt clogged with tools.

I actually did this the other day. Was working on a cat c15 engine and removing the intermediate valve cover. There was a ******* of a fastener located under a coolant hose and fuel line at the front of the valve cover. Was definitely not getting in there with 3/8" drive - actually I ended up prying the lines to torque the valve cover on, but removing was made simple by putting a 3/8" to 1/4" reducer on the end of my 3/8" cordless impact. Handled the torque fine, but those bolts are only torqued to 15 lb/ft...

One would not be able to get very torquey with this setup, but would be beneficial for clearance issues as mentioned. But I would go the simple way and simply buy a reducer then you can use the extensions you already likely own...

A red state.
Buy an adaptor & extension (in the length you want) then weld them together.

Or drill and roll pin them. I did that to an Indestro 1/2" drive ratchet. I installed an Apex 1/2" to 3/4" drive adapter. It won't pull off or fall off. That 10 or so long ratchet is handy as hell in the 3/4" drive box.

I was just think of this today. I need a locking 3/8 to 1/4 extension. This would be great with a 1/4" drive swivel on the end.
